• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I was wondering about that a while ago.
I'm no biomechanical engineer, (Jim) but |I was wondering if a sort of external brace would be of any assistance for him. Something that could strap across the shoulder, and basically go down either side of the arm, to a joint at the elbow, attaching with a wrap just below.
I am going to call a local leather shop- a hard leather for the arm- with softer leather for the forearm with a couple of buckles on either end. I have to call him again though- he has tried some things i think- but Rochester Strong Hospital has a prosthetics dept.

Would a collaboration between you and the prosthetics dept. of the hospital be possible ? It sounds like a good idea. Keep us posted.

Gone or still upright, he has been an incredible fighter. I have painful arthritis, and he has inspired me to learn a different way of playing that reduces pain. More than that, he has inspired me with his strength; he's always been kind and helpful to our forum's members. I hope he has gotten a miracle treatment and is sitting in a comfy beach chair, eating fresh food and watching the tide come in and go out.

I spoke to Big Al yesterday. He is up and about. We don’t talk about pain or the digestive process. That’s all I will say about that.
we talked about setting tone one of our frequent topics. Setting amp tone. He was in “ the middle of it” In CA. We discussed settings some household name musicians used. The various dogma are interesting. One bluesman dimes the high end and mids with zero bass and adjusts everything from the guitar. Why no bass?
Its not where the guitar frequencies naturally occur. It sucks the power and the life out of that set up.
For that musician.
The big thing in my opinion these apply to concert volumes.
He is getting around. I don’t know if he gets here anymore. I will send everyone‘s regards.

I talked with Big Al tonight. He said to say hello to everyone. He’d like to post but cannot use the computer due to his health challenges. We talked about amps, guitars, and the old days on the Forum. We also talked about when I invited him to one of Gibson’s Custom Direct events in 2001 or so. He can’t play any more but still has a lot of gear and his wife (a wonderful woman) doesn’t want him to sell any. His son plays guitar and can appreciate it. Please keep Al in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks so much Mike for that - will do.

I bet that if you pick the best, debunkiest and funniest posts from Al and put these together, you've got one of the best and most useful guitar books ever. Seriously.
I'd read it for sure.
Besides all that, he was / is one of the most knowledgable people on this forum.

Thanks for chiming in Big Al and it’s always good to hear from you! We’ve missed your particular brand of candor and common sense around here!

Hanging on to all my gear too. Got this book about clearing out excess stuff and it said to look at your things and if they don't give you joy, you should get rid of them. So I threw the book away! :ROFLMAO:

WTF?! Big Al!

Here's an up lifting tune for ya I played on a red guitar (1964/65 ES-335 converted to stop tail):

:ROFLMAO:
