I was testing two microphones to see how they make the guitar "blend" with the other instruments...
The first soundfile "Cheezy 1" is from a Shure SM57.
The second soundfile "Cheezy 2" is from a suspended Large diaphragm mic.

I hope you'll hear the difference between these two mics.

...but the tune is so cheezy:lol2

Hi Toni,

Sounds as if your large diaphragm mike is picking up more room acoustics.

I prefer the more focused sound of the SM57 but then it is what we're "accustomed" to hearing.

Hey, your Alinico 5 loaded PUs sound good though!

Ed,
it's the Virtual cheeze !
I put a slice of Kraft cheeze between each tube and when it melt i get a beautifull orange tube color, it compress the sound, and i get this fat tone...:lol2

...no joke, i played about anything that came to my mind when i did the mic test.... and my daughter told me "its cheezy but for the first time i like your tone !" hee hee... :lol2

DDawg,
I played Virtuals on these files, alnico V for sure...
The Seths (alnico V) would be right there also. :dude
I think you're right, we are "accustomed" to "vintage" SM57.
I think you said the good words, accoustic for the big diaph mic, and Focused for the SM 57.

Just goes to show that I can hear the difference in the mikes but not the PUs!

Man, they sound awfully close to the Alnico V Seths in your other MP3.

Nice job.

Nothin' cheesy about those sound clips. I dig the groove and the tone. What you're hearing is the difference between close and room mic'ing. I like to print one of each to separate tracks. Start with the close mic and blend the room to taste. As a solo builds, start bringing more of the room mic in.
For an example of this listen to SRV's solo on 'Telephone Song' on the Family Style album.
You can also hear it on some of Santana's stuff.

Damn! That sounds awesome toni! I'd love to hear those pickups with some more gain and hear how they scream. These are very tempting at their price if we can get beyond the bad vibe regarding DiMarzio.

Has anyone determined where is the cheapest source of these?

I have always liked Dimarzio PU's. However, I threw money at a pair of Rolph's. I can't understand how anyone could listen to the EdA sound files PAF vs Rolph and not want a pair.:wow

thanks Mojo !

I paid 200$ canadian for the set ( so about 120$ US.), but i could not tell the street price in the US though.
The Virtuals sound really good in a high gain amp.
