• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Watch the MOJO unfold...

It's great to see one of the world's greatest players not know from Stingers or Staples. Puts our gear obsession in perspective!

He's got quite the collection... at home. I am sure there are more in the HB clubhouse.

Very cool. The burst serial number appears to 9-0425 which is one that's not in the registry. 0424 is a plaintop that looks very similar and 0426 is flamey.

Very clean...

If I didn't know better, I would guess that this is a photo of a plaintop R8:

I finally managed to watch it this evening after I finished work.

I loved the Alnico Custom...i think it was a '55?

Excellent viewing and Mike is a living legend!

From what Mark mentioned upon seeing the serial number or some parts, yes, '55.

Also amazing was the 19-teens/pre1920 L-4 with oval sound hole, which Mike just regarded as just another plinker.

Outstanding "Collection" video ....Mike is a class act and a living rock legend. Mike has amassed a very cool guitar collection over the years. However, his vintage Les Paul goldtop doesn't appear to be a 1968 model Les Paul goldtop which featured an ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge. It actually appears to be a 1972 Les Paul gold top model with the wrap-over bridge/tailpiece.

I believe you're correct. He probably assumed the '68 model year because the SN starts with 68.

I'm kind of surprised he didn't pull out his early '60s Gibson J-45 that he was given by a fan/player in the earliest days (may have still been Mudcrutch era) who admired his playing and compared some of what he heard to Jerry Garcia.

Mike appears to be pretty nonchalant when it comes to his guitars, his query re the stinger made me giggle.
Remember seeing the vid of Stop Draggin My Heart Around and marveling at the tone of the cherry red ES 150 he was using, however later on I was told that guitar was for show most probably......lol

That's a very nice collection of great guitars!
Clearly Mike is a player first and collector second. I don't think he cares what year a guitar is but what songs it has in it.
So where did you acquire this knowledge of what Mike cares about? Are you his friend?
In the Collection video, Mike appears to be very knowledgable about vintage guitars.... and with one or two exceptions, the specific model years of the guitars in his collection. As "King Loudness" states in post #9 above "he probably assumed the '68 model year because the SN starts with 68."

Can't show them all... but I'd like to have heard something about the double cutaway orange Gretsch 6120 Nashville (Chet Atkins) from 'You Got Lucky' video.

What a lovely man, player and songwriter. Really enjoy his band The Dirty Knobs too. I once had the very same amp setup, properly the best sound I ever had.

The guitars are no slouch either... I'd have one of each, please!

Mike Campbell is a very good guitarist, and if his collection isn't big, I don't know what it is.

He also plays a lot of Gretsch guitars, and he is actually very good at playing Gretsch.
