• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Very nice vid, Thanks !!
Like the split head V

Which are questionable
The split headstock explorer for starters.

I’ll add that the other two explorers are just to die for. Honestly, what a treat to get this level of quality footage of those two old gals and their respective cases.
But yeah… you can even see Mark’s face acting super uncomfortable praising the 3rd explorer like something just isn’t quite right.

Do you think it's a replica? My first thought was that it's a 90s '59 reissue of some sort - colour, top wood, binding, inlays, bridge pickup placement and hardware all point to that era imo. I wonder if he was just confused about it?

The guitars that are real are off the charts though!

Interesting that he mentions Gruhn selling him that one circa 2010.

WTF?

Just watching on my phone I started to cringe. How did that not get edited out of the video? Neither of them could smell the fugazi stank AFTER handling several authentic bursts in the preceding moments? The rodeo clowns strike back.

Is it a big deal that he said he bought that fake looking burst from Gruhn's? I have never seen a real burst in person but even I thought that was a replica or reissue immediately when I saw it. But when he said it was from Gruhn's that would make me assume it was real because he knows more than me. Just curious if it coming from a trusted name in the business might mean it is some amazing unknown example that he authenticated or if he somehow knew Rick would be a sucker for a flashy top and would bite on it.

Is it possible that deep inside Nielsen knows the guitar is wrong and used Gruhn's name recognition as a shield to deflect potential scrutiny? History has shown that authentication by a made man is the last refuge of the fakeholder.

It's a shame that "10 quilt top" didn't end up on a PRS where it belongs. I like the serial number stamp almost as much as the bizarre brown residue on the pickup covers.

"One more burst here."

"5 latch."

"Have you ever heard of George Gruhn?"

It really seems like they are presenting this as an original 1959 burst, because the guitar after it is introduced with "We should see one new one. Yeah, one new one."
