• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The CS Standards aren't much of a hit (no surprise)

I haven't seen a single NGD for a CS Standard and Wildwood seems to have the same inventory that they had at the start. I doubt that many (if any) have sold. My guess is that these will be almost unsalable until the leftover inventory of 2014 Historic models as well as earlier used Historics has completely dried up.

Yep. Both Dave's and WW have many 2014 Historic or featherweight models to choose from. Someone at Gibson should be punished for the CS idea. I've also noticed that the TH inventory is starting to mount. I remember early on someone was saying they would be hard to come by.

Geetar sales can tend to dip in the summer, and pick up in the fall. :jim

That said, the CS series was a risky venture, given Gibson Custom's hallmark of LPs with a long neck tenon as a key differentiator.

Given the absence of long tenon and the rather high price point, there is reason for concern about the viability of the CS series.

The reports on them from an appearance and tone perspective are very positive.

Time will tell. :hmm

I've noticed the same thing. But I did see an Inverness Green '56 aged by Tom Murphy at WW for $11,455.

It sold almost immediately... :hmm

Here it is:

I'm hoping Tom is getting a pretty penny for his aging work. There's almost 5k difference between the aged and non aged THR6.

There's at least a 2K difference in price from the old CS Standard and the new CS models. Only difference spec wise I see is hide glue. Seems an awfully large price increase for glue.

But if a R6 can sell at 11.5K then I guess anything is possible. :##

It's not just Tom's aging. It's the "find another one" factor.

Those THRs with big tops are selling fast. The rest not so much.

Gibson is still putting out '14 spec guitars with '14 serial numbers and we're nearing the end the '15 model run. I'm guessing the '14 model year will have more Historics than any other due to this.

Mike's right about the Summer doldrums. I never advertise guitars in the Summer for this reason. The first days of Fall when the cold starts to set in is the best time to sell. A guy knows that guitar will be his friend until it warms up again and outside activities take precedence.

well count me as being a little cynical as far as Gibson Custom saying that the true historic series were going to be LIMITED to a certain # . My hunch is that they are limited to how many they will sell .Think about it like this ,if they are selling well at that price point Gibson would be crazy not to make more for 2015 if not then the 300 listed (TH59) for U.S.A. would be it. Case in point Wildwood keeps getting them in dribs and drabs . Nothing wrong with that at all and more power to Gibson !!!

I walked into a local guitar store about a month ago. This is a very well known Gibson dealer. I asked the sales guy if they had any True Historics. He said I was the first person to ever ask about them! He said they did not get any because they did not think they would sell, given the pricing. I didn't ask about the CS models, but none of the LPs I looked at that day were CS models. They had some nice CCs, though.

Also, the last time I was in GC they did not have any TH or CS models. They had plenty of old stock '14s and '15s hanging on the walls. The sales guy said the Gibson Custom Historics just aren't moving.

I can't believe anyone in their right mind at Gibson actually thought the overall market could support their new pricing.

Yeah, maybe the not so brilliant idea was the R8 and R7 pricing. Sadly, they have to keep them somewhat comparable to the R9s though.

Wildwood has some really killer R9s with big tops IMHO. I'm actually surprised those are still available.

This was the last THR9 WW had that really got me going.

It sold in less than a day. I've seen Donna CCs that weren't this nice and this was just a run of the mill THR9 for a couple less Gs. :peace2

I'm sure most don't pay MAP. But not having been in on the deal as bystanders you've got nothing else to go by other than MAP.

It really wouldn't matter if it only sold for 8K. That's still 4 second hand R6s if you're patient and wait for the deals. I wouldn't be spending anywhere near that on an Inverness Green R6. For that kind of loot I'd be buying the THR9 below and grabbing an amp to boot! :peace2

Sorry to de-rail this thread, but for all the improvements, and a price hike that's likely meant to compete for the "Makeover" dollar, why don't they put the f'cking "Gibson" inlay in the correct location on the goldtops? Come on Gibson, I've seen you do it on limited editions for the Japanese market, on the Bonamassas and Henry's CC edition goldtop. You gonna tell me that for a guitar with an $8000.00 MAP, the customer doesn't deserve to have this significant detail correct?

You would be surprised how many people just click on the "ad to cart" feature and pay MAP price from the web dealers sites and don't know any different.

Nice...but! How does it play/sound?

Nice tops are like hot chicks - you can live with the pretty face for awhile, but in the end, if that soul isn't there you always end up moving on. Still love a pretty face though...
