• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I've never seen this one before - I'm assuming it's a Gibson, but someone else may know for sure. It almost looked like it had a greenish tint to it.

Yeah, search for Music Rising Les Paul. They are not for everyone, but I have a history with New Orleans, and I'd love to have one one day.

At least the rockers from Ireland brought American guitars (Gibson and Fender). Mellencamp was using a Martin, too [his sound mix was horrible].

But Springsteen and Garth Brooks were sporting Takamines. Nothing against these guitars, but I would think this event might be the time to celebrate Made in America guitars...

I get to see one of those about 2 times per week when I'm getting home at Nashville airport, down the escalator to baggage claim.

The Takamines are made in Japan, Not Iran or North Korea for God's Sake!!

And if you go down that road then you will have to mention that NONE of the sound equipment used on that stage or for the Inauguration will probably be made in USA either.

Plus That nothing on that Gibson except the labor is of USA origin either. (Maple=Canada, Mahogany=South America, Hardware=China or Japan, Even the CNC Machines gibson uses are made in China!)

Springsteen and Garth Brooks arent making a political issue with their guitars, they just recognize Takamine as making a damn good workhorse guitar that stays in tune and has great sounding electronics. I know Springsteen used tons of Vintage Gibson and Martin in the studio, but neither has the modern electronics of a Takamine.

Ask how the Japanese would feel if we took over the market for making Samurai swords. :)

Aren't takamines Canadian? North American made is good enough. :)

Seagull and Godin are made in Canada. I don't want to hijack my own thread, but I have a Seagull S6 acoustic and absolutely love it - just a wonderful, unique guitar.

So it's ok for IRISH guys to be playing there but they have to play guitars made in USA???

I found it odd that a bunch of guys from Ireland were playing there at all...

IMHO it is Very interesting. I suspect that maybe the staff planning the "gig" are more worried about popularity and spin than being American. Or maybe "being American" doesn't mean what it used to, and no I can't define what it used to be or what it might be now. Ever since I can remember it has always seemed that America has been in a state of flux. It is a cool looking Les Paul, kind of like a gold top, and kind of like a psychedelic paint job.

They were most likely invited to play because Obama used "City of blinding lights" on the campaign trail. Or because this isn't just an American event, it's a world-wide event. Or because they're popular, can play live, and one of their most recognizable songs honors Martin Luther King Jr.

I'd rather see Irish rockers than American rappers.
