• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The house we're about to buy, belonged to the family of a long time friend. Many moons ago, in his basement rec room, we took the rolling paper from a Cheech and Chong 'Big Bamboo' album and rolled a joint with about 3/4 of an ounce of cleaned weed. We smoked that thing for about 5 hours and still couldn't finish it. We were going to finish it the next night but one of the kids with us stole the roach. Rat bastid

Lol I’m glad my book gave you such a good reminiscence

All I can say is that we're trying to sort this problem out. We'll see how it goes, if anywhere. I honestly think that it may just be better to archive the old site, and start over with a new software platform and a clean slate, but unfortunately, I don't get to make those decisions.

I have some skill in the tech field (35+ years), so if I can be of help, please let me know.

I appreciate it. It's not really about the knowledge. It's more about having access to the server, (which I don't, btw), and the authorization to rebuild the site. I think it's more about the fact that the site doesn't make any financial sense, and it's expensive, and would become more expensive if upgraded. For what worthwhile purpose? Let's be honest... Member participation over there, is pretty sparse. I honestly believe that Facebook, and other forms of social media, have all but killed 'Forum sites'.

Kenny, Gentlemen.

Hope you don't think I'm speaking out of turn as a non member of The Fender Forum, but why don't you and the fellas decamp to here. I know it wouldn't be the same as running your own show, but we already have a separate Fender section here. Why not use that to rebuild your band of brothers in one place? It's a crying shame when players lose touch with each other for want of a place meet online.

I hope you work something out Lads.

All the best.

That’s a fact, indeed. However, many people still like forums, especially the old sites, myself included.

But I agree that keeping TFF is just not worth it anymore because like you said: even the users who are keen on not moving elsewhere post very sparsely.

I think the best of both worlds is just gathering here at the LPF and staying tight as a group. I like having all the other LPF users to interact with, too.

I've never learned just how expensive it is to run a forum. I've done some research with thoughts to starting one of my own, but the unknown becomes the number of users, messages, storage, etc. I don't expect an answer on how much it costs to run LPF (if you want to PM me, that's fine), but neither LPF nor TFF are subscription-based, so income is derived from sponsors, donors and the owners' deep pockets, I surmise.

(I already have a site, a hosting service, and I know how much I pay annually for site software, ICANN registration, DNS, security, backups, etc. How much additional on top of that is the unknown).

What have you bought guitar-related? I bought the last 4 volumes of Hemingway's letters. It's guitar related because I plan to write a song about Hemingway's reading. He used to stay in bed for three days at a time to read, books stacked beside him, everything from St Thomas to Henry Miller. ---I wasn't really going to write a song about it but now that I said it, I might. I'm really just going into a nerd coma about having all 5 volumes of the letters.

A small note to TFF'ers: Over on the site I've posted a note in the Front Desk pub about a possible alternative should the owners decide to fold it.

In short: I have spoken to my ISP about what it would take to start a replacement. I already have an underutilized site I've run for 25+ years, so I'm looking into turning it into a forum. That's all I'll say for now.

I saw that thread, but I thought I'd commit thread blasphemy.
