• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I deleted mine. Then this place disappeared for a couple days. I was beginning to get anxious.

Actually, maybe you should bookmark it again...

Building management is driving me crazy with all these showings of our apartment. One yesterday. Two today, originally 2 for Monday. They tried to schedule one for 9 o'clock on Monday. I emailed them back and said "Yeah, right, that's not happening." We're closing in 2 weeks, moving in 3. I've got a ton of work to do before then and I do NOT want to keep having to leave for an hour at a time. They'll rent the place out, no problem. There's such a low vacancy rate, less than 1% right now, that this false sense of urgency is irking.

That's my rant, thanks for letting me vent

You've come this far, Dan. It'll all be okay in a few weeks. It's been a long process for you, and I know that's stressful. Keeping fingers crossed that things will get a bit smoother.

Gloom despair and agony on me!

I'm a bit pissed at myself. I took my Holy Grail, the 83 Ibanez Artist I just bought, in for some work--everything would cut out on the treble pup. Took it to the shop and paid them $40 for a bit of wiring. I said, "Didn't you change the pots?" He said, "Man! Everything about this guitar screams 'ORIGINAL!!!!!'" I listened to his advice and brought it home. Still have scratchy pots, and while he got more volume out of the treble pup, the pot cuts out or makes it loud then soft then ....silence..... So I took it. Just blew $40 and had nothing to show for it.

While I appreciate the "keep it stock" mentality, the guitar isn't playable as is. I'll keep the original harness for the kids to sell with it when I die, but stock doesn't mean shit to me if I can't play the damned guitar. I ordered a lefty harness from Starr Guitars, and old as I am, I've started getting into doing my own minor repairs and wiring. I'll fix it and make it play like new.

"Keep it stock" only goes so far. When the tuning keys of my 1957 ES-225 literally started crumbling away, I had no choice but to replace them. I was fortunate to find a shop that put "period correct" keys on them. They also replaced the control knobs (NOT with period correct knobs) because they too, were cracking. I recently put "period correct" knobs back on it, but it was more important for me to be able to play the guitar than to look at it in all of its "pristine" condition.

I'm glad to hear that story, OS One does feel a bit hesitant to alter a classic, but as my best bud said to me, "original" is nice for a museum piece, but if you want a guitar to play, get the damned thing repaired.

I was curious about how certain pups compared to others, watched a few "vs" videos. It struck me that there's so little difference between one ne humbucker and the next. And then, I came across videos of PRS vs Gibson guitars. The differences were as minimal as those among the mass market HBs. Makes me want to sell a few guitars.

The biggest difference in a PRS is the slightly longer scale length gives it a bit more sparkle and jangle. It's a tweener between a Fender and a Les Paul.

I know two cables go to pickups and one to the Jack plug. Why the red cable? Trying here instead of the LPF tech folder since I know most of you.

finally some rain and wind free weather. I was trying to move stuff from the garage to the basement through the bulkhead, we have no through house garage access. I've been trying to pace my stairs activity due to an incredibly sore right knee. Not 5 minutes after I started it began to rain when none was forecasted. Grrr.

I've been giving some thought to delaying the demoltion of the basement, largely in deference to the above-referenced knee. I've been putting my guitar stuff in one side of the basement, where frankly there is a vast amount more room than my 'music room' in the upstairs. That room can then be just an office/workshop room. It makes sense. One plus would be not having to humidify the music area but rather control it via a dehumidifier if necessary.

well, no rest for the wicked, time to go to the coal mine.

wait a minute. Ground wire to bridge woud be a single conductor. That wire(s) goes to the switch. (Somehow though I was looking at an SG).

I had some 4 conductor pickups a long time ago. I was wiring a Les Paul. What are you wiring, CW?

I'm putting a harness into my 1983 Ibanez Artist that has Ibanez's "58" pups. Hopefully, I'lll have some time to get to the job this week.
