• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Has TFF been renewed? I’m not getting that warning screen when I go there.

the vbulletin software has a 2021 copyright mark.. it just may be back up. I disabled my security thingie to go back a few weeks ago, so I can't tell right now. I'm going to check my settings and max it out again and go back to see what happens.

I'm a Mac guy. What is it you're asking?

Browser security is the issue with TFF.
a while back I overrode the security certificate warning to re-enter the Fender Forum. Now I can't find where that function is to reset it ... if I even need to. Mac can be strange that way. You can do it, but you need to know the right combination of 'control' 'option' and/or something else and click on an otherwise non-responsive item. I ran into that yesterday when I was trying to re-introduce my printer to my network. Found a site online that said "control click on printer name" and it brought up a menu that was otherwise completely hidden.

Dan, a lot of it depends on which browser you're using. Most will toggle security setting for a given site by clicking on the icon just to the left of the address bar. If you're on a secure site, it will look like a closed padlock. I use the Brave Browser, which is Chromium based (like Google Chrome). When I'm on TFF, rather than the padlock, I get a " ! Not secure" instead of the padlock. If I click on that, it has a link to turn back on the security settings.

Cool, thanks for that information. By the way, the Fender Forum is now secure, with a new certificate and updated software, FYI

Neither one of those are true...

uh, oh. Did the bots take over?? It had the secure lock symbol in the address bar

just to reiterate, the lock symbol is no longer in the address bar of the fender forum. i apologize for saying it was there. maybe it was wishful thinking but as of today, it is not there. Listen to Kenny, not me.

vBulletin 5 was released in 2012. TFF is on version 4.x.x something with a 2009-2012 vintage. That means approx 10+ years worth of exploits are available for the version that TFF uses. Just. Not. Secure. Hence the bots.

The certificate issue is just another symptom of lack of maintenance.

Lack of maintenance??? Listen up folks!!! For the simple fact that the site even exists at this point, is a fuckin' miracle. AND... While I've spent a huge amount of time and effort keeping that site alive, I have absolutely NO control over upgrades, or anything else related to the "back end" of the site...

Let's be honest, okay... The site generates exactly ZERO dollars, while sucking up monthly fees like a Hoover. Meanwhile, the average user participation is roughly 5 members per day, and the most popular thread on the forum is about "Sunday Morning Coffee"...

To be even more honest... The forum world, in general, is all but dead, replaced by other forms of social media. That's a FACT!!! I've actually offered to buy the domain a few times, then I came to the irrefutable conclusion that it just isn't worth it...

And YES!!! I'm PISSED OFF!!!

So... Any other opinions on this shit???

Geeezzzzz man...

Ken, you've done so many wonderful things for our group, and no one could have done it any better. And it's time for us to play "Taps". It was a lot of fun in the old days, and I love talking to all our friends there, but it's a crippled horse that needs a bullet.
