• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

It was my impression that Custom Buckers first came out in 2013. I have bought a couple sets lately after getting a hold of one and falling in love with them. In my new conquest of tone chasing, I discovered some people were selling "custom buckers" that were built in 2011 or 2012. The attached link is such an example. Does anyone know if they were being built back then or what the case with these pups having custom bucker stickers from Gibson on them? Check out the link.

I cannot save the pics from reverb but on the second pic, the sticker says Lead Custom Bucker 09/05/2011

As I understand it, a few of CC models were equipped with Custom Buckers in 2012, but none of the standard Historic line used them until 2013.
I have a sneaky suspicion that Custom Buckers might have grown from the A3 pickups that Gibson commissioned Ron Ellis to produce for the Lee Roy Parnell Les Paul in 2011, however that model wasn't released until 2012.

My Oxblood R4 is from 2012 and essentially has 2013 specs, including CB's (It's a limited from Wildwood).

I have a 2011 Les Paul Custom 1957 reissue in White. Kind of a rare bird as I haven't seen a '57 in this color before. I removed the pickups to see what was installed and they are dated 11/21/2011 Custom Buckers in both neck and bridge.

They are nice/okay and could have been so much better with A5 magnets and more output , but i can understand where Gibson Custom is coming from in the same way a Chef is not going to overpower the spices and salt on a dish .

Wow...2011 and summarily pǝʞɔnɟ with!

El Gringo - well...it sure is a matter of personal taste. I love the underwound CBs in a couple of my LPs. They're damn near perfect w/rt the sounds/performance I like. (Two of my CCs and my '54 Oxblood benchmark from Rainbow have these PUs, and I'm crazy about them!)

I finally pulled the pickups in my 2010 R0. Always loved the sound- here’s what I found. Wound 07/07/2010

I am most likely misinformed, but I thought the CB’s were the Super 74 rebranded after Gibson finished all CS runs of the Various 1974 pancake bodied Customs. I am sure they had to buy a lot of A3 magnets. Also heard “They” are one of the regular paf production pups with an A3. Burst 57s or what ever
