Probably time for a thread like this to surface. Historics did not come into being in the first third of the 90's. Even back in the 1970's, Gibson was attempting to pay tribute to its past, and in the 1980's they tried harder with pre-historic models, one of which I own. But the number of Historics being produced today is overwhelming for the average collector, even by my standards. This has led to Cognitive Dissonance.

Where have I put my money? On CC1, R6 (BRW), R8, R9, R0, and a number of artist models, including the 2013 Duane Allman Burst, Dickey Betts SG, and a 2013 ES-335. What have I missed? Plenty. Great losses include not picking up a Skinner Burst or a Redeye. Just could not decide which one to order, and ended up ordering neither. Was this cognitive dissonance based on my high respect for each artist? Maybe. Other blatant mistakes include not getting JP 1 or 2, Pearly Gates, and both the Gary Rossington SG and LP. But, at least I have started to save for a CC Black Burst. That has to be coming in the next two years, correct? With my luck, a vintage Black Beauty with PAFs will show up at the same time, and you know which one will be the highest priority. Gibson's greatest competition has always come from its former self.
People tend to seek consistency in their beliefs and perceptions. So what happens when one of our beliefs conflicts with another previously held belief? The term cognitive dissonance is used to describe the feeling of discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs. When there is a discrepancy between beliefs and behaviors, something must change in order to eliminate or reduce the dissonance.
