Since Phillip Whorton has now succeeded Mike McGuire after he retired and now in charge of the Custom Crimson department at Gibson Custom one of the things Phillip has taken a special interest in is revamping the old Gibson Custom Art & Historic Division. For those of you that have been around long enough to remember the Custom Art & Historic Division they made all kinds of cool guitars through Gibson Custom Direct and built by the Pro Shop at Gibson Custom. The Custom Direct Program was a very cool and unique program. To join members would have to give Gibson a $500 membership fee that was used toward your first guitar purchase. Members were given a user name and password for the Custom Direct web site and they could log in on a daily basis and see the guitar offered and purchase them directly from Gibson and they would send them right to your house. It was a killer program.

At any rate when this guitar was offered to me I just couldn't pass it up. The Hitman is a custom painted Les Paul Custom one of a kind based on the character from the movie. The finish is a killer flat black matte finish but here is the best part. Look at the Tommy Gun on the back. Is that sweet or what? Now that would make John T. Thompson proud. It comes with a custom made guitar strap that looks like a machine gun loader but Gibson forgot to send it to me so its on the way. I will post a photo of it when I get it. Look for more of these types of one offs coming soon.

Are those supposed to be suit buttons under the bridge and tailpiece? I thought it was a B-bender mechanism at first.

The tie and lapel pattern is interesting -- can I get that suit in a 44-long? :hank

Different. It is very nicely done. It would make a great player for the right bar scene if it wasn't so perfect! How does it sound, what's the weight, what pickups? Spill man, spill! I'd frame it right next to a framed suit of the same cut and color.

There was that older guy here on the site that had pictures of him in his suit with a gal in front of him with major league things goin' on spillin' outta her clothes. It looks like he should'a been playin' this thang!

It plays and sounds absolutely flipin unbelievable. Its loaded with 57 Classic pickups that were wound and tweaked just for this guitar. I have not weighed it but I would say its in the 9 pound range but it does not feel like an extremely heavy guitar. Balances perfectly with tone to the bone.

Hilarious.
They should make one wearing a hoodie and a Glock .40 too.
Maybe call it "The Drive-By"

Congrats! That is a conversation piece for sure.

That strap is cool.

Are those pickup rings metal or plastic?

I don't usually care for decorated Les Pauls, but that's actually very cool.
