Courtney Love had actually once been approached with making a signature model for Rickenbacker, but due to her ongoing personal and health problems it never happened.
So I knew for a time that she played Rickenbackers but that she also played various Fenders, Gibsons, even a Gretsch Chet Atkins model. I have some questions about her Rickenbackers. I know she has played a 360 and a 425.
When did she acquire her first Rickenbacker? What tracks did she use it on? I would like to guess that Violet, Doll Parts, Awful and Heaven Tonight were played on a Ric. I knew that Eric Erlandson had borrowed an es335, a Gibson SG and a Hagstrom 12 string from Pat Smear. Kurt mostly played Fenders and the occasional Guild, Gibson and Martin. I think Corgan did too. I know that Linda Perry had played a Rickenbacker bass on some cuts from the dismal America's Sweetheart, but I could be wrong. I know that Courtney still owns a lot of Rickenbackers, but she did get rid of a lot of her Fenders many, many years ago.
I read that Courtney played a Rickenbacker because they were used by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth on their first few albums, and I read that it was Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles who also was encouraging of the amazing journey that Courtney went on with her Rics.
And no, Courtney Love is not the Beach Boys cousin. That's Mike Love you're talking about.
She was still using her Rickenbackers during the Nobody's Daughter tour. There are some clips of her on Jools Holland playing with the 360.

And the 425
Whether she was responsible for Kurts death or not, I'll just say she played an indirect role and that the pictures of those Fireglo Rics are spicy. I want a Rickenbacker really really badly.
But just let me know what you think of these pictures. I have more of them coming soon...
