• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The many Rickenbackers Courtney Love has played..Yikes!!

Courtney Love had actually once been approached with making a signature model for Rickenbacker, but due to her ongoing personal and health problems it never happened.

So I knew for a time that she played Rickenbackers but that she also played various Fenders, Gibsons, even a Gretsch Chet Atkins model. I have some questions about her Rickenbackers. I know she has played a 360 and a 425.
When did she acquire her first Rickenbacker? What tracks did she use it on? I would like to guess that Violet, Doll Parts, Awful and Heaven Tonight were played on a Ric. I knew that Eric Erlandson had borrowed an es335, a Gibson SG and a Hagstrom 12 string from Pat Smear. Kurt mostly played Fenders and the occasional Guild, Gibson and Martin. I think Corgan did too. I know that Linda Perry had played a Rickenbacker bass on some cuts from the dismal America's Sweetheart, but I could be wrong. I know that Courtney still owns a lot of Rickenbackers, but she did get rid of a lot of her Fenders many, many years ago.
I read that Courtney played a Rickenbacker because they were used by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth on their first few albums, and I read that it was Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles who also was encouraging of the amazing journey that Courtney went on with her Rics.
And no, Courtney Love is not the Beach Boys cousin. That's Mike Love you're talking about.

She was still using her Rickenbackers during the Nobody's Daughter tour. There are some clips of her on Jools Holland playing with the 360.

Here are some clips of her playing the Rickenbacker 360

And the 425

Whether she was responsible for Kurts death or not, I'll just say she played an indirect role and that the pictures of those Fireglo Rics are spicy. I want a Rickenbacker really really badly.

But just let me know what you think of these pictures. I have more of them coming soon...

I saw her after a Lecture from the visiting Japanese Nichiren Shoshu High Priest in West Hollywood, at Barneys Beanery parking lot after the ceremony, We are in the same Buddhist Sect.

I liked the first Hole Album and her movies. Not realized her Love for Rickenbackers until now. She always interested me for some reason. I hope she is doing okay.

I never followed Kurt Cobain.

That's interesting. Isn't she also doing some new movies?

First time I ever saw a Rickenbacker was seeing "Jim" Mcguinn play his 12 String with the Byrds at "Bido Lidos" and "The Trip" off Sunset. I loved Rickenbacker's immediately but ended up with a '52 Les Paul after seeing The Yardbirds, on Catalina Island, after Jeff Beck, switched from his Fender Esquire.

Not that I know of. She guest starred on Empire a few years ago. If they did make a movie about Courtney I think Emma Roberts would be a good actor to play Courtney. They resemble each other in some photos.

The perfect one is out there waiting for you. and then you have to have the perfect Amp for it.

Get ones that will only go up in value. It's always worth it.

In fact, I found a picture of sometime Hole guitarist Micko Larkin playing a black beauty LP.

He played alongside Courtney on the Nobody's Daughter album.

I liked that album. This guy looks familiar. was he touring this past summer in the US?

I like the way that Black Beauty has a greenish look in that photo.

I had to go down the Internet Black Hole to catch up on this.

Another well known Rickenbacker player. When they first toured Hollywood they were fun to watch. but Pete was an obvious guitar novice

Greg Lake of ELP was also a Rickenbacker player, despite using it exclusively for live shows.

ELP was a great band. I saw them a number of times. I may be confused but I saw them at Griffith Park Observatory--Laserium Show. I seem to remember them inside the Dome. But I saw them in other venues as well. One night was a performance inside the planetarium--in my memory anyway.

And speaking of female alternative rock musicians, Shirley Manson of Garbage played a Rickenbacker. Hers was a 450 in Jetglo finish.

I think Madonna played a Rickenbacker on some of her early albums as well.

George Harrison had a 425 that he got in the US in 1963 and had it painted black because John had a black rickenbacker. Here's mine from 1962rickenbacker425.jpg

I don't much like their guitars, but love the 4001. this one late 70s.

You should also check out Hole's cover version of Fleetwood Mac's Gold Dust Woman. It sounds so similar to the original, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Rumour is that Courtney also gave a Rickenbacker to Billy Corgan as a gift for collaborating with her on Celebrity Skin.

I think Ed O’Brien of Radiohead also played Rickenbacker but most of them (along with Thom Yorke’s Fenders) were stolen after a gig.
