• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

wow, I want. But the arm of the arm and a leg that it most cost would make it improbable for me to play it.

I hate to ask, but how much?

So... since it's not posted there, and since you now own one of these guitars... can you please tell us the depth of the body, and the width at the lower bout? Thanks.

Since I cant be precise in the dims of the body I will contact the almighty G and ask them for the body size from the blue print drawings.

Oh, there's no need for micro-measurement precision. Not at all. Just asking you to measure as best you can. Thanks.

Seems odd to me that the body dimensions are nowhere to be found on Gibson's website.

Resorting to sheer eye-balling and a bit of 'using the force', it looks to me that the body width on the lower bout could be 17 inches.

I (very quickly) overlaid a photo of both an L5-CES and a single-cut Gretsch Country Gent and distorted the perspective using photoshop. Looks to be similar in overall body shape. Body thickness looks like that of a Byrdland.

We can only guess. :laugh2:

Regarding the L9 itself, I keep looking at it and personally find it awkward-looking. In the same way that an L5-S looks slightly awkward. Lovely nevertheless, but just not pertaining to that 'golden ratio' and aesthetic balance of classic design. Nice idea though.

Needs a celluloid pickguard and a proper deco tailpiece I reckon. Room inside for a Floyd Rose maybe? I kid, I kid.

I just got this from Gibson. The L9 is built as a true arch top and carved on the same machine that Gibson used and currently uses for the Wes Montgomery, Byrdland, L5, ect. This carving machine was built in the early 1920's and is the original one and only one they ever used for arch tops. The spec measurement is as follows. The upper bout (waist) is 17 inches and the body thickness is 2 inches.

??? The upper bout is not the waist, and is not 17". Some basics: There is an upper bout, a waist, and a lower bout. Three different things. The upper bout is nearest to the neck; the waist is the narrowest part of the body (between the two bouts); and the lower bout is the widest part of the body (17" in this case).

I think I prefer the look without the Les Paul style switch washer.
