• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Thinking about an SG.

I ended up swapping out my 61T on my LP Standard 60's for being too bright and uninspiring. Ended up putting in a 500T to darken up the sound a bit.

Yesterday I purchased a 2010 SG Classic and this thing has anything but a slim taper neck. REally feels like a chunky 50's profile but I can't seem to find much info on these guitars. Not to mention the fretboard is so blonde I questioned if it was even rosewood. None the less I really dig it after an oiling.

I've got a Dave's Guitar Shop 2016 SG Standard '61 Reissue Limited Edition. It has a slim neck but the shoulders are quite full, fuller than the ES-335 slim taper. It has '57 Classic and '57 Classic Plus pickups, ABR-1, and nickel hardware and is really nice sounding.

Bob, how well does that pickup combination sound? Don't know if you read my other posts, but as much as I like the dual humbucking sound it seems like in most instances (for me), the neck pickups always has certain drone and bass response that makes the bridge pickup sound thin and weak by comparison. Trust me, I've done every imaginable adjustment on both pickups to counter this but can't seen to get the result I want.

I'm pretty chuffed. The '57s aren't bass heavy to start off with. In my other guitars with '57 Classics, you need to back off the tone control on the neck pickup to bring it into line with the neck, and this is no exception. I think that is just the nature of the Gibson control beast. The Plus in the neck just adds a little gain that shows up as a little more "fizz" once you balance the trebles. When I go into the middle position I often open the tone control on the neck to get the "ping" out of the pair. I pursued this guitar with the '57 Classics
