• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Those of Us Whose Go to is Not the LP...

If your LP is not the guitar you grab first, what make and model is your go to guitar?

Where does your Les Paul figure into your playing?

I've always played Fenders, and most of that time, I've owned LPs (Epi and Gibs). I had a Faded Standard that I used for heavier parts of my band's show, but it wouldn't stay in tune, and it sported my least fav neck shape and frets. I had to sideline it, lost interest in it, and sold it.

Now, I have a 2012 Traditional, and it's everything I ever wanted in a LP. I haven't played my Fenders in about 6 weeks. I still consider myself a "Fender man," but I've been having a 3 month affair with the LP, and I don't see my love wavering anytime soon...

My go to guitar is, and probably always will be my 1984 american standard telecaster. That thing is a real workhorse, but certain songs my band plays require that unmistakable les paul tone.

Tele or Strat. I love my Les Pauls but I favor single coils and find humbuckers limiting. Great tone and playability for sure but I log more playing time with the Fenders.

My 2014 R7 is the number one and ALWAYS the first electric guitar I would take to a gig!

If I need twang I take this one too...

or this...

, which twangs just about as hard as the Tele (low output Klein 'bird pickups)

My go to is my BC Rich Mockingbird Pro X.

I'm not into Death Metal or anything like that. More classic rock & blues... a bit hair metal. The Mockingbird is just my thang. I prefer the Floyd to the hard tail, & Neck through just makes sense to me.

I've got two Les Pauls, a '98 Standard & 2010 Delux... or 2012, can't remember.

I don't gig, I play out with friends, & mess around on the computer. I've usually got one of my Mockingbirds, a Les Paul, & a strat out.

Horses for courses.

A LP is my goto house guitar. It'll probably always be my favorite guitar design, which goes back to when I was a little kid, fascinated with a Jimmy Page poster my older brother had on his bedroom wall.

Ironically, my favorite guitar design (LP with humbucker's) doesn't work with my current band/project.

I had the same experience with Jimmy--and also Dave Davies playing on on Saturday Night Live in 1976/77. I was 14 and his Paul was the Holy Grail to me. It is why I have to have a pickguard on my Les Paul--there's something about the shape but also that pickguard and the switch circle.

I'm not in a band at the moment, but in my last band, I needed hbs for about half the set. The other half was played on my Tele.

Thanks for mentioning Dave Davies! One of my favorite LP players from the 70's and another huge influence in my musical journey.

My USACG T-Style. I built it several years ago and it's become my main guitar more and more over time.
