Thoughts on 2007 Historics and R6's In Particular

Hey guys, I'm looking long distance at a 2007 Tobacco R6. Seller says it is 9 pounds even and that the 1st fret neck depth is .920, both of which would probably be fine with me...

Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of with the 2007s or the 2007 R6s in particular? Common issues,, anything?

Here is a pic, and it reminds me of my early 70s tobacco Deluxe that I foolishly sold in 1977....to buy a couch! Just trying to avoid doing more dumb stuff!

Thx guys, TD!

That looks a lot like my 2006 R8 in terms of color (and plain-top-ness). You will be amazed at how beautiful that can look in the right light. Good luck!:jim

D'Mule your photo may have pushed me over the top, the R6 will be headed West. Ironically, I may now have a use for a Couch brand strap that I received as a gift from co-workers!

Thanks for the encouragement, I knew I could count on you guys.

of course you have to try it,

all i can say is i had a 2007 r8, and it sounded awesome, and the top was beautiful

a lot of historic owners here seem to really appreciate the 07, very good year for the wood so they say, from what i read the fingerboard was madagascar rosewood

trust me , my 07 was a wonderful guitar that i sold to buy a r9

I did the deal so this will be headed West, and this is actually a Darkburst. I really had to scratch that P90 itch before having any business going on to an R9 which would be more of a vanity play for me.

Thanks again for the encouraging words about the 07s.

I'll sell a few PRS that are on ice in the closet and make that R9 happen, when it is time.

Good choice, I like plain tops. My original burst I owned in 77 was a 1958 Plain Top and I never missed the flame. I don't know much about 2007 but can't believe there will be a problem.

I bought an R6 built in 2007. She was NOS unsold, which I purchased in 2009. I've had her ever since, loved her and don't expect to let her go anytime soon.

Enjoy,
The fretboards are what really make the guitars, that and the neck profiles for the R8s were very moderate...realistic.
The 06 was the first VOS run.

A lot of people complained of a forward lean of their bridge posts on their '06's. I had a 06 Johnny A that had this as well.

For what it's worth, no problem with bridge lean on mine. And fingerboard is lovely. VOS was pretty gentle on the hardware on mine, and I just polished the gunk off the paint.

I'm on a P-90 tangent with R Pauls that has lasted over a year and I am still just loving the model. The guitar is extremely versatile yet still delivers the LP goods in its own way (which after all of these years playing Humbuckers, I seem to prefer).

Everyone brings their own taste/expectations but the R6 has made me a very happy and inspired player. I hope that you find the new guitar to be as pleasing!
