Decided to try some ThroBaks in my 2016 Standard Historic Lemonburst R9. I like the look of double creams in a lemon burst and love the ThroBaks in my other guitars so I took advantage of the ThroBak Black Friday sale and snagged a set of SLE-101's and one Jon's 50's style wiring harnesses. The PUPs have Jon's lightly aged bone bobbins and look great with the stock Gibson plastic.

I am horrible at tone descriptions but....... to me the guitar sounds much more open and airy after the upgrades. Increased clarity with a 3D quality is obvious. It sounded great before with a nice thick punchy tone - now it just has more of the same character with more presence and space/depth. Much easier now to coax controlled sustain verging on feedback from the guitar. I'm sure the lack of potting is responsible for that. Touch sensitivity is improved as well.

As with all my previous ThroBak orders, great customer service and personal attention from Jon.

Now for some eye candy:

That looks really great.
I came really close to taking advantage of the Black Friday deal, too.
I am just not sure the 101s are best for me.
I need to investigate some more, plus I need to speak to JG before pulling the string.

My double whites on Lemonburst. It is going to get Thrōbaks or OX4's dropped in as I have decided to try something other than the DiMarzio Anniversary's in it. I wish they had done these with the red back and sides like yours KOTR. That would have been even cooler...

That is a killer looking 335. I remember seeing one of those on Mark's web site a while back. Very tempting. What color is the back on it? I was actually thinking I would like the back on my R9 to be a bit faded to a reddish brown.

I love the red with the yellow. Here's the back on the 335 though. Nice looking but it would have been better red. The neck is a club though which is NICE.

Congrats!

Any reason why you replaced the harness too? I thought the newer historics had some better pots and caps...may be wrong.

Two of the stock pots had a very narrow useful range and only had any effect from about 10 - 8 .

In general that is my favorite type of flame. Just beautiful from my perspective and very much how I like them to look from a figure point of view. Excellent!!!:yah:hank:salude
