Throbak ER Customs...which guitar?

Any users of these pickups? How would you rate them for an all mahogany '57 RI LP Custom? Word is these are mid/lower mid dominant pickups, and the Custom is pretty girthy sounding. Good match or too much? Or would they be a better fit for a brighter or more balanced guitar? I have a balanced sounding 335 I wouldn't mind putting these in if they aren't a great match for my Custom, but my 1st choice is my Custom as I really need to make a change there

Hmmmm? I have a ‘57 LPC reissue (see avatar) with ‘57 Classics and they are killer pickups. What don’t you like about yours?

Edit: ThroBak makes some fine stuff, but what do you expect to change? Reduced girth?

Mine had wildwood spec custom buckers in it, not 57 classics. It has Onamacs in it now, which are good pickups but they're not what I'm looking for. No, not looking for reduced girth, I was just wondering if the ER Customs would be a good match for a girthy guitar of if they might be too dark given their lower mids empahsis. This guitar's natural voice is big bold and ballsy which I want to emphasize and compliment. On paper the ER Customs are what I'm looking for, just wondering if they're going to be a good match for this particular custom.

Perhaps @jwalker can advise you directly or refer you to someone he knows who has performed this type of application (all mahogany LP)...

I emailed throbak to ask them, but they apparently are selective about what emails they answer. I tried 3 times, and all 3 emails were ignored LOL. My question wasn't outlandish, just simply asked which of my 2 guitars they'd recommend this set for, my custom or my 335 and described the characteristics of both guitars. You'd think this is the typical standard type of email that they get every day. For the price they ask, you'd also think they'd be keen about sales potential and opportunities and would thus enthusiastically respond.

Small business, probably busy; might try calling the phone number instead.
No that's not it, because I sent them a separate email about something else unrelated in between the other emails, and they answered that one. And no, not going to try calling LOL. Not into chasing a disinterested party. I'd try another manufacturer before I'd try chasing. They have plenty of competition that would be happy for my questions and business. Honestly, at their prices they're probably doing people a favor by driving them to their more sanely priced competitors. Maybe they're doing well enough that they feel they've afforded the luxury of ignoring sales questions? They must have hit their quota for the month and decided, 'nope, not doing anything that might encourage another sale, this guy with his question can just F off, delete that email!' :ROFLMAO:

These are a good option. Plus you can get double cream.

I got a good deal on reverb on a 2016 R9. I loved the look, heavily figured and sporting uncovered double whites (Wizz). Took a chance, such as it is with internet sales. Turns out it was overly bright/ice-picky (to me.) Back to Reverb I went, sold off the Wizz to (help) fund the best deal I could find on a recent (2023) set of random used Throbaks, which, turned out to be ER-Custom MXV w/ short A5's 7.9/8.3. Could not be happier now, smooth, articulate, warm, woody, all the things.

Did you check your spam email folder? I've thought a couple businesses hadn't replied to emails, then found out their replies went to my spam folder. Then again, sometimes they just don't reply...

Yeah I did check that. It's weird, I resent it 3 times lol. Don't know what to make of it. Ponderous man, ponderous
