Tight jack socket??

I replaced the plastic Historic jack plate on my R9 with a Gibson nickle plated steel version. The holes all line up fine and I button it in place and the guitar cords plug is all but impossible to insert into the socket. When I loosen the four screws that hold the jack plate in place on the guitar the cord plug goes in and out of the socket no problem. So, I figured I'd leave the plug in the jack and screw the four mounting screws back down and now, the cord is all but stuck in the socket. What gives? Anyhow, for now I've put the Historic plastic plate back on and it works perfectly again. :## What in the devil is going on? I've done this mini mod on several other Gibsons in the past with no problems.

Turn the jack a bit and then tighten down. It is probably the jack hitting the wall of the hole when you insert the plug.

Yeah I was gonna try a bit of that next. Just had to get a few more cups of Java down first. Weirdest thing, if I left the four screws tight and then loosen the nut on the jack the plug goes in and out no problem, and if I have the nut on the jack tight and just ever so slightly loosen two or three or four of the four plate screws the plug goes in just fine. It's driving me nuts. I think the guitar is just rejecting anything she didn't come from the factory with!!

With your second post I am sure you just need to reorient the jack

Yep, got it now. Just had to rotate the jack so the flat, back side of the piece that contacts the tip of the plug was facing up, towards the front of the guitar vs a 1/4 turn to the left facing the strap button. Works fine! Thanks!!
