TKL 8824 same issue for my Junior...

I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed. I, independently from any advice read on this forum, purchased a TKL 8824 case for my newly acquired 55 LP Junior. The case arrived Friday and upon placing my guitar in the case, I noticed it suffers the same issue as other "normal" LP cases. The head stock floats above the nearest cradle. If I place a cloth at the butt end, under the guitar body, the head stock will then rest in the cradle as designed. The case also has a minor finish blemish but had the guitar fit properly, I could have easily overlooked this.

I'm only reporting this so my fellow forum members can make informed decisions when concerning the care of their beloved vintage instruments. I have sent the company, I purchased it from, an email stating my concerns and asked for a RA# and shipping label. Here's a photo of my issue. The white object you see beyond the cradle is a tuning button from the treble side of my headstock.

Sorry to hear about the bad fit. I bought an 8824 for my 2012 Junior Special and it was a perfect fit. TKL usually gets it right. Send yours back to the dealer for an exchange. An alternative is to get a refund and keep an eye out for a Gibson "Slim Line" case. Also made (I believe) by TKL but with the black lizard exterior, white plush interior and Gibson logo. Made specifically for Juniors and Specials. Hard to find, though.

At this point I have a decent amount of practice at modifying the interior of guitar cases. The guitars do vary somewhat in neck angle so you can adjust the height of the neck cradles by removing them, unwrapping the covering, and then cutting the foam how you want. Then just put it back together. You can also pull up the lining in the bottom of the case and add more padding under the lower bout to raise that up.

I emailed the company after I recieved the case this past Friday. Still have yet to receive a reply. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that they may not operate over the weekend.

Not a bad idea but would rather try it on the used LP case, the guitar is in now.

I have one of these on order for my recently acquired '56 Special, primarily out of a lack of other readily available alternatives that are Jr/Special specific. I'll post my findings on fitting once it's arrived from across the pond...

That is where I purchased it from. I'm currently going through the process of returning it. They did send the correct model, according to the manufacturer's hang tag on the case. According to avalive the case was drop shipped from TKL.

I believe the issue may be related to my guitar's rather shallow neck angle.

Why not just put a folded towel under the body? :hmm

Already done, to a case I purchased used. Why pay full price and modify a brand new case that the manufacturer advertises should fit? I purchased the new case so I wouldn't have to deal with a towel.

I have the same case and my '56 fits great. I would agree that your fitting issues are related to the neck angle.

What makes it ideal for playability, makes it not fit the case. I have the posts screwed all the way down and it plays perfect. :jim

For my used case, could you outline the removal and replacement of the lining to insert some more padding? Does the lining lift away from the current padding easily? How do you adhere the lining to the new pad so it doesn't flop around? Lowering the cradle would be more labor intensive, the storage pocket would need to be modified, as well.

That's a sweet looking fiddle you have there.:salude To verify my theory about neck angle, how far down are the TP bridge screws into the body?

The bass side is a hair above flush. Treble side .. a little more above the body.
This case is a tkl but I bought it a while back. Maybe 2007.
Try and find a good case match for a vintage Melody Maker DC.:spabout
Looking for a vantage case.
Yes the neck angle on my 54 is low. Looks like there may have been a move late 1955
to put a shim under the neck there at the body. To raise it up.
Best way to look is ,on a 54 early 55 the side dot makers are real close to the body.
If that makes any sense.
1954 and an early 1956

I have 511237, that makes mine a late 55, correct? Mine is like the top guitar in your photo, dot markers closer to the body. Always something to learn...
