The recent thread about Mike Cambell's burst had me watching youtube videos last night, which led me to this Mudcrutch video, "Lover of the Bayou":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln7F-a05aQI&feature=channel

Guitarist Tom Leadon is playing a vintage black dot-necked, bigsbyd ES-335 which has to be one of the coolest looking guitars I've ever seen!

I know there are a few guys here that dig early ES guitars, and black has got to be a rare color. Are there more examples of golden era ES guitars in black?

There were a couple pictured in Duchoissoir's book. There was a 345 on eBay about a year ago from upstate NY, which I believe was one of the ones in the book. And a couple more I have heard of but not seen. Not many out there.

And there is one known EB-2 in black.

In an old Vintage Guitar Mag feature, Tom Said that he had just bought that from Gil Southworth. I cant watch the video at work, its a bigsby with custom made plaque right?

Edit: I should add that I meant Tom Petty when I said Tom.

Yeah, it's a bigsby guitar with a custom made plaque. Does that Vintage Guitar issue have any pics of this guitar?

Also, on a tangent, Mike Campbell is killin' on a B-bender tele in these videos..sounds kind of like Jimmy Page here and there, to my ears.:)

Here is another tune from the same session:

Good playing from both fellows. Mike Campbell is still one of the best at playing what needs to be played. Did you get a look at the close up of his picking hand right about 44 seconds? A reminder that none of us are getting any younger.

Don't know if that is the same guitar, but in a TP/MK feature in VGM a few years back there was a photo of a black dotneck which they gushed about. Maybe it's one of the huge number of guitars in their warehouse, where the vid seems to have been shot.
