• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Trademark 10 vs. 60?

I know a lot of people rave about the Tech 21 Trademark 10, but I was thinking of getting a Trademark 60. I don't need the extra wattage, but I'd like to have the option to change channels with the footswitch.

Has anyone tried the Trademark 60? How does it compare to the Trademark 10 in terms of sound? Is it worth the extra dough to get the channel switching?

I have a 60. Never used or heard a 10. Only you can tell how important channel switching is. It's very important to me, but that's just me. Overall, the amp is very impressive.

The 60 got mediocre reviews on Harmony Central. However, Les the man has gigged with one at the Irridium in New York. Incidentally, Tech21 killed the TM120.

That's a little better than mediocre.

I've owned both and prefer the flexibility of the the TM10 preamp. I really find that I can set up the clean channel of the TM60 for a decent clean or decent crunch, or I can set up the OD channel for one or the other, but the EQ settings that work for one channel don't for the other. To me the TM120 would be a much better bet if you can find one. Or go all the way and get a PSA1 and a Power Engine 60.

Dr Robert, you mentioned once a place that had a power engine used. Where was that?

That was Good and Loud Music, Madison, Wi. I think they were asking $180 for it, and they'll usually deal.

Read *SOME* of the HC reviews, not just the overall scores. Don't get me wrong, I am a die hard Tech21 fan. I love my TM 10, I just wish Tech21 would provide better info on the capabilities of the amp and it handled Fender cleans better. Until HALouis' brilliant site, I did not know what I had. My point was that *COMPARED* to the TM10, the TM60 did not *SEEM* to fare as well. Also, I pointed out that Les Paul himself used the TM60 at the Irridium recently.

I've owned both.
I liked the 60 better overall, the 60 wants to be cranked a bit to sound good though.
The shared Eq on the 60 can be mitigated with an EQ pedal in the loop.
The 10 is the best practice amp I've played for low volume, but I haven't tried the Vox 30 or 50 yet.

I was considering a TM 60 but your idea of coupling a PSA1 and a Power Engine 60 is very intriguing. Great suggestion.

DR. Robert, have you done this? I'm real interested in the various gradients of clean and mild OD. What a great idea... I say this because I was just about to purchase the TM60 but amd now thinking hard about the setup you suggested. Can anybody comment? Thanks, v
