Here's some Western:
And just to confuse you...
My 2016 R9... which looks as Western as John Wayne, Will Bill, and Roy Rogers. So... :spabout
Here's my Darkburst: western or eastern? The flame is tight, I don't see the pores...

And now CherryBurst: looks eastern I guess?

I'm simply trying to learn :dang
ONEHERO, the bottom looks Eastern in the pick. The top one could be Western Big Leaf Maple, but I have seen some quarter sawn Rock and Red Maple, (Eastern), with a similar look. There are several in the BOTB book and a bunch in the 58 section iirc. If you get a very strong flash of reflective light and rippling movement when you roll the guitar it would suggest E Maple. All I can saw about that top one is, I'm not sure and I'm pretty sure about the bottom one.
I love strong color and am a freak about Wacky Tobacky and you have a very nice sampling from that gene pool, brother!
I don't know about that. Most don't look like Big Leaf Maple too me. Of coarse it would be best to look in hand, but still I see a lot of Eastern Maple in some of these guitars. The Quilt Top is obviously a Big Leaf top, but I see Rock Maple in some of these.

Ok so I got the confirmation from Gibson that my Darkburst is indeed Eastern maple (hard) but quartersawn. They confirmed that ***ALL*** True Historics are hard rock e-maple unless it was specified in m2m to have quilt

So now that it's done - I still don't know what to do with my dark burst...it's a lot of money to sit on for a guitar that is only added to my collection :worm
