Tweed Champ shootout versus a Roland Cube 30 Tweed...

Hey guys,

I felt like messing around today with my recording software and mic to test out the real Tweed 5F1 versus the Tweed selection on the Roland Cube 30.

I just cranked the Champ to 12 and let her rip...used an SM57. The Roland Cube was tweaked as close I could get to what I was hearing on the real 50s champ. Now I don't know if the Tweed option on the Cube 30 is a champ tweed or perhaps another tweed amp like a deluxe...

I know which one I think sounds better....What do you think? :roll

I thought number one was just a bit better than the Cube 30. It sounded to me that the Cube 30 might get closer to the real Champ if you tweak the bass control up and the treble control down. What do ya' think? I have a Cube 20 that I just bought. I'm getting used to the sound, and I know that it is how you dial it in that really counts. So far, I have got some really decent tones from the "overdrive" model selection on that amp. I'm wondering if your Cube 30 can be a "warm" sounding amp.

NO contest...the amp in the first cut is more musical.

Bob, ime 'ears' are the result of two things.
First, genetics....some of us are blessed with good hearing. Some of us are tone deaf.
SEcondly...experience. Some of us are blessed with the good fortune to get to listen to a lot of amps and become discriminating listeners. Some of us hear loud sounds and think that is 'good'.
Fortunately, my hearing started out good and is still with me. .....and I listen to a LOT of amps. THat Cube 30 is not even the best SS amp that I have heard.
