Hiya -

What would you say is a fair price to pay for a 1971 Les Paul Deluxe? Has a neck repair that appears solid but isn't super pretty. It was just taken out of the case after two years and was still in tune. Guitar is very well used with wear throughout with chips, dings, marks, etc. Tailpiece is some non-original tunomatic. Tuners are not original and I believe required new mounting holes to be drilled. Original mini-humbucker pickups. Original bridge. Sorry I don't have any pics! This would be an in person sale not reverb or anything. Any help ballparking this thing would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

The neck repair that isn’t pretty lowers the value significantly. The top price for me would be around $2000. There would have to be something about the guitar that I loved, like heavy mojo or if 1971 was my birth year, but it’s not. I have always avoided guitars with neck repairs.

Hmmm... I’m not gonna opine on a price because you didn't provide any pics... but an ugly neck break repair with some non-original parts that is “very well used with wear throughout with chips, dings, marks, etc.” speaks of a heavy discount on value.

Hey there.
Mine almost fits that exact description. Except that it's a '74, and I wouldn't say the repair is nasty.
I paid about $2200 USD for it.
Headstock was repaired in 1980 but is really stable.
To each their own, but as a Player and Not an investment I'm really happy with it.
I'm not sure if '71 to '74 is comparable, but I would think its in the same ballpark.
That being said.. I also Have GAS and not good with money , and often pay too much for what I want .

good luck.
