• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey guys,

My Melody Maker is the most resonant guitar I own.

Always loved these thin-line guitars, they have so much bite. Couple that with a p90 ( had the P100 replaced, along with the pots and a no-load tone added)

Its loud acoustically sustains beautifully and wants to tear your face off plugged in. I play it through an Orange TH30, mainly for swampy/dirty slide playin

It was in a terrible state when it came to me, hence the non Gibson colour/stain.

I agree that ”resonance” might be a word that is overused or not used correctly.

So I’ll use a more long winded description of what I look for in a guitar:

If the guitar rings and I can feel it in my left hand through the neck when I play it and maybe even through my forearm or my body, most of the time I get along great with that guitar. When I plug it in, that feeling generally continues.

Let’s say this is about 9 times out of 10 for me, since there are no absolutes.

The guitars that feel like that in my hands are my favorites and I generally play with more inspiration and feeling than if I pick up a guitar that feels kind of dead and lifeless to me. This applies to both acoustic guitars and electric guitars, unamplified or amplified.

For sure though, we don’t all like the same guitars. Good thing, they’d be too expensive!

I’ve owned a couple of R7’s and R8’s that were very resonant unplugged, but from current Les Pauls, I think that my LP Classic is the most resonant unplugged. Probably due to its weight relieving VS my other non-weight relieved Les Pauls.

I've been shopping for a Custom Shop SG, and this past week I played several more of them and the best one of the bunch was the one that sounded best BOTH acoustically and plugged in.
My custom shop SG Special rings like a bell acoustically and electrically...
