VOS Body Sizes

Hello All,
I am new the forum! Glad to be here!

I just bought my First Custom Shop. An R7 Goldtop. Absolutely wonderful!

My question to anyone here who may know, are the bodies smaller on the VOS R7’s? Next to my Classic and Standard, it seems a tad smaller! I didn’t know if this was original spec or if I got a lemon! LOL..

Since I am new to the Custom Shop world, I figured someone here more knowledgeable could enlighten me on the subject!

Thanks in advance…

Thanks for the responses.
So I measured the waist, the bottom and top versus my 2 Standards and Classic. It’s about an 1/8 in smaller at the waist of the body as well as the horn tip to the top of the toggle switch at the body. The bottom body is exactly the same.

I wrote Gibson, and they said it was an optical illusion because of the Double Gold color. But the tape measure doesn’t lie. And the 57 sits loosely in the regular cases while the standards and Classic fit very snug in the Custom case.

I was just hoping someone had some info on this. But either way, it’s a monster of a player! I’d buy it again!

Thanks for the input guys…

Jimmy

Sounds like you are comparing Gibson USA to a Historic Custom Shop.
Is your question concerning comparing Historic gloss or aged to Historic VOS Finish?

As Burst_in2_flames said VOS is a finish not a structural difference. VOS gets mildly aged hardware and dull finish look. Otherwise the guitars are the same historic spec as gloss or aged. On the USA Side, there are slight differences between them and Historic which is probably what you are noticing.

Again, I truly appreciate the responses, but I’m not talking about nor comparing the finish of my custom shop to Gibson USA finishes. I was talking about actual body size. Because the body looked smaller to me, and now after measuring it, it is slightly smaller..

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking as well. Like I said, either way, she’s a player! I just thought it odd to see the top part of the body being smaller.

Can you get a picture showing the size difference? Just my curiosity, and for posterity, in case someone else stumbles on the subject.

The Historic is based on the measurements of a real 50's LP that they digitally 3D scanned. Could be the shape has drifted and changed over the years, so with the modern versions VS the Historic you're seeing how the dimensions have slightly changed over the years to present

My 2018 Standard is slightly thicker than my 2021 R7.

Big difference in production in regards to Gibson USA and Custom Shop. Like stated earlier the CS body is a 3D scan of an original 1950s LP. Factory production in the 50s compared to now was hardly consistent.

My 2021 R8 is slightly different than my 50’s Standard. I can see it in the cutout area

Hi, he’s not saying you are asking about finishes. He’s simply saying that VOS is a finish option (and thus would have no bearing on body size/shape). And that if you are comparing Gibson USA guitars to a Custom Shop guitar then yes, you will likely notice some body size/shape differences. They are built in two different factories to two different specs. But VOS has nothing to do with it.
