Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I haven't spent much time with a reissue, but my initial impression, adn from what I gather from others is they are 99% there. The cool thing if I am not mistaken is they are master voulme.
If my old one went up in flames I'd get a reissue. An orig in nice shape is getting torwards 3k these days. I wouldn't part with mine for less regardless of what the market is.
A reissue can be had for $1200 used with blues. The tone is there. The only strong advantage I see to an old one is the investment, and the "Uber Factor". I doubt you'll loose money on a reissue though. they are good. The best AC30 since the JMI period.
The AC-30 does NOT have a master volume; it is modeled exactly after the originals, with the exception of adding a standby switch. The AC-15 is not modeled after the originals, and has a master volume. See the www.korgusa.com site for details (select VOX, and you can get to the UK site with the specs).
I have worked on and played several reissue Vox AC 30 amps. As long as you get a new reissue and not one from the eighties or early 90's you will be okay.
The build quality on the new ones is decent. I have worked on several during warranty and all problems have been minor ie: bad tubes, loose tube socket pins, loose connectors directly at the speaker.
There is a big difference in the sound of the ones equipped with the Celestion blues and the Celestion greenbacks. If you can swing it, go for the blues. Your ears will definately be rewarded.
If you have several to choose from play them all as I have found that everyone sounds a bit different.
The AC30 is kind of a one sound, one trick pony but the sound you get is a good one.
I'm trying to decide between an AC-15 with a Blue and one of the new Orange combos. Do you have any experience with the AC-15s? I like the sound, but wondered about the reliability factor. Any major problems associated with this model?
I haven't had any reissue AC15's in for repair so I haven't gotten a peak inside one yet. The Vox dealer I do repairs for only carries AC30's, and the small transistor practice amps.
I do have an original 60's AC15 in for repair but haven't gotten to it yet.
Sorry I couldn't help you with more info on that model.
I got a crate, The old one with the wooden case. It has ended my tone search. If you are in the San diego area next saturday the Vox will be out at my garage sale. 7 am no early birds. $15 takes it. Also have a lawn mower $25 as is, and a blender missing the glass pitcher. $20 :dead:
