• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just wondering if anyone has ever had a String Swing break under the weight of a Les Paul.
I’m not talking it ripping out of the drywall because it was foolishly mounted to that only, but the actual fork part for example.

I just bought one of them for my guitar and the idea of it crashing to the floor has me wondering.

I have the Classic up there now and might want to put up the 50’s Standard and R8 as well. For now the Classic is the Guinea pig as it is the least expensive one.

I’ve had my Strat hanging on a Yorkville branded hanger for months now with no issues but it is a much lighter guitar.

Not too worried about the finish as I will keep a bit of cotton on it to be safe, although I read most people claim these don’t effect the nitro finish.

Any examples?

I've been using them for over a decade, both at home and in two different stores I've worked for. That's wel over 600 stringswing hangers and I've never seen a faulty one.

As long as it's mounted right, it should be fine - unless you have a boat-anchor 70's Custom and are slamming it into the hangar regluarly.
There's always the potential for a defective unit - if you're worried, take a close look at the hangar every so often to make sure any joins are still intact.
But like DutchRay said, there's millions of them out there with minimal issues.
The biggest thing I would check on is the padding - you don't want that rubber stuff touching the finish on the guitars, it could eat right through it.
The contact points should be cork or felt, possibly foam, never that rubber.

I’ve been using them for Les Pauls for many years. Mine are so old that they didn’t come with the thick rubber washers that they come with now. I had one Les Paul Studio twist & fall off. I called the company & they sent me enough thick washers for all of my String Swings free of charge, no more issues.

The ones we use are a little older, from before they changed the shape of the "hooks". Never an issue, it would be hard to imagine the weld itself failing (not impossible, as any joint can fail).

We haven't seen an issue with the covering String Swings uses, but other products, like the black foam, or the surgical tubing are terrible for interaction with the nitro finishes/

I've had many Les Paul's on String Swings since the 90's. No issues with them or any guitar period.

Nice. Mine has been up for a few days only but I’m thinking about a couple more. The comments seem positive enough. Thanks

I have 11 Hercules wall hangers in my music room, a 6 guitar wire wall hanger I bought from a store that went out of business and 3 Fretrest wall hangers. These were all mounted in 2019. To date, the only issue has been with one of the Hercules...the "barrel" that the hanger post goes into split and shattered from the weight of a P-Bass. Tonight I'm on my second round of "I wonder if I can fix that?"...

I went with the String Swing for simplicity. My guitar is in a spot where it can’t be bumped so I didn’t want the worry of the extra mechanism of the Hercules. As good as it looks for the extra security, I figured it might be a potential point of failure.

the hanger itself is fine, it's how you 'attach' it to the wall is the main factor. I made sure mine were screwed into studs with a 2" screw, (half inch for the drywall, two inches into the stud), just for piece of mind.

1/2 for the drywall and 1-1/2 for the stud?
