my green inlays

it could be the ebay pic. that guitar's inlays look like bile. I thought mine were pretty green, but they are not as bad as that ebay pic. This is my '02 Classic in Light Burst, with Burstbuckers 2 & 3.

I really like that top, too bad about the inlays.

I agree completely. It's a Great looking guitar, except the fact that they destroyed the inlays. I don't usually even mind the Lighter Green Inlays, but those are horrible.

:smokin Your LP classic looks very good.

Is the sound of your classic with Bustbuckers similar to the sound of a 58 RI?
Unplugged the classics yield namely a very very bright sound.

I like the top but the inlays are almost the color of some teeth that haven't seen a toothbrush in about 12 years.

When I first started thinking of buying the Classic; it was the talked about "green inlays' that made think I wouldn't find one that I could live with. Turns out that the inlays on my classic are white. Now if I were to compare it next to a Standard, they would look really milky looking. The standard has the appearance of a higher grade of pearl(ivoriod or whatever it is). If a Standard was not there to compare it to, you would think that they were regular white inlays. I love the clean looking white on the Standards. That , along with the brighter white pickguard on the Standards; are really appealing to me. The bright white rings; the pickguard, and the inlays against a Burst finish; is a look that says"beautiful guitar". I really did happen to get some whiter than most, inlays on my burst classic. Mine is a 2000 model.

Wish I had the pleasure of experience on a R8 to be able to say how it sounds compared to my Classic. I think it both a little darker and actually less bottom at the same time compared to my R9. However, I will qualify the sound comparison by saying I'm not sure about the pickup height. I wasn't sure where to set it after I swapped the pups in, i think they might both be a little low.

i claimed on the fdp about 18 months ago that i felt the LP Classic was pants and the green inlays were plain dire and i got fleeced for it, i still view the classic as substandard and those green inlays destroy the look completely ofa nice top........a shame, adrenaline junkie (charlie) can vouch that i did what i said on fdp and took some real stick from the "classic club."

Surely, one needs green inlays to get that Greeny sound that is so sought after.. It just won't work without them....believe me.
The story goes that Pete was just about to launch into a solo on 'Black Magic Woman', when he had a sudden sneezing fit....
Snot all over the fingerboard !!!!!! The roadie rushed over and gave it a quick wipe with an old pair of underpants, but some of it smeared over the inlays and dried out under the heat of the spotlights.... A Gibson rep who was present at the gig made a quick note of this and Voila!! Gibson went straight into production and so the Greeny myth was born....

Mind you, there could be another explanation.. If the cyan is a bit too over the top and the magenta isn't balanced on a digital pic. Anything white will have a greenish tinge... But I think the snot story is far more believable don't you?

I just can't understand why Gibson incurs extra expense to make the inlays green. Wouldn't it be cheaper to use the stuff that they use on all the other Les Pauls (including the Studio). This must raise the cost of the Classic.

My 92 Classic used to have the greenish-yellow hue to the inlays- however most of it came off when I used Gibson fretboard conditioner. This i how it looks now- (man I wish they had lightburst back then, that one above looks killer)

What???????????
Are you kiddin'???
It came off with fretboard conditioner??? How often did you do that until you noticed any results?? If this really works I'll have to do that to my classic. it has really ugly inlays.

Great news about the fretboard conditioner. I didn't know Gibson made it. So here's the info.

IMHO I dont see how fingerboard conditioner would change the color of those inlays. The older classics had real nice inlays to start with. I have a 93PP that has great looking inlays.....maybe alittle gray but very nice.
