Was Bobby Cochran's LP a "Burst"?

It doesn't look 1960 to me. Inlays, the bridge angle, new condition etc.
But Bobby sure makes it sound like one. Amazing tone, great musician in a great band. :)🤟 Was it 1974-1976 Cochran was in the band? And Kay left in 1976. I think the Les Paul he plays is a sparkling brand new 1974-75 model..

Yes, that's about right when he was part of the band and yeah, absolutely amazing tone and quite the musician. I remember watching that show when it aired. If I remember right, they also played "The Pusher".

I thought it looked too new too, but it doesn't appear to be a Norlin to me either, since it doesn't have a three piece top. If it does, I can't see it. It also looks like a Tobacco sunburst, which is why I wanted (bought) one back then, albeit, mine is a Deluxe.

Thanks for the post S.W. and

@ 1 sec. mark I can see what looks like a center seam, but no, I can't see evidence of 3 pcs. top either. Did Norlin's never do 2 pcs. center seam tops in the 70's I wonder?

I see that too. I'm not sure when they started the three piece top? My Deluxe is a '76 and it has a three piece.

I was looking at a thread over at MLP, while 3 piece were the most common, they did make 2 piece tops during the Norlin years.

yes e.g. the Heritage series and earlier "pre-historic" LP's, Leo's and GuitarTraders are obviously 2 pcs center seam, but what about the 74'-75' or early '76 years standard production?

Bobby's Les Paul appeared to have the wider binding at the neck join, wide headstock, and the Norlin-era Tobacco sunburst. He was pushing that Leslie hard, as did Michael Alsup and Kossoff in the mid-70's. Band was super tight and Bobby fit right in.

I really appreciated the fact that the bands played live on Midnight Special, but for us rock fans we had to sit through a good portion of the show before the rock acts played.

From the size of the headstock, to the cutaway shape, to the location of the neck volume knob (ie, relative to the tailpiece) that thing screams Norlin.

2pc tops weren’t unheard of (just not that common) during the Norlin era. I have a 1980 LPC with a 2pc top believe it or not (can see the centerline—see pic).

My other two Norlins are 3pc.

That's very true Bruce. Of course, ratings had a lot to do with that, so they had to have a Helen Reddy, Seals and Crofts, etc., thrown-in to appeal to a wider audience and keep the ratings up. There were some great acts on that show and I always looked forward to watching it.
