• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Nice. Anyone have any clips of him using it live on songs? I'd like to compare and contrast.

Sift thru the Nugs.net / Dead and Co 2022 show previews on YouTube... he's used it on some songs there.

I'm going to be working for him this weekend. I can take some pics if you guys want.

This was a couple years ago:

Mayer was ripping it on the intro to Viola Lee Blues last night. Second set had Lost Sailor > Saint of Circumstance > He's Gone > Terrapin Station.

Mayer and Chimenti wonderful weaving together, as do Weir and Oteil doing their thing, all over that rhythm section thumping along. Jay Lane has been tag-teaming with Kreutzmann, as Bill has been having some medical issues which limits his performance endurance.

One of the greatest rhythm guitarists ever.

I have spent considerable time trying to deconstruct what he does. Sometimes it's hard to pick him out in the mix, which hampers... other times, he's right there.

And then: it's both amazing and confounding... akin to walking as Fremen on the sands of Arrakis.

Seems like he's got gold top fever... this is not the same, this looks vintage.

Crazing, no switch tip, and a different Bigsby; yes, I imagine I can tell the difference in gold paint too :sneaky:. Is that a pick holder on the guard or something else?

I don't know which one was first acquired 56 or R6, or how he came to favor a P90s + Bigbsy on a gold top Lester.

Happy Days for Bobby!

JB thanks for posting. Saw him last night and I was certain he was playing something different than the first photos posted. Yes no switch tip, crazing, bigsby that went to the tail The tone of that guitar was great. Cumberland Blues (Bob's part) sounded very much like the studio version. John got out a tele too that looked vintage and it did have a more classic tone. Those guys can make anything sound great. With their bassist they can stay in their own sonic world (thin single coil sound) and it works great. They were on last night

Indeed. I wish Bob were slightly up in the mix.

I was there last night too -- it was smoking hot all the way thru -- even Days Between with Jeff on piano was burning in it's own contemplative way! I was also at Virginia (Bristow), and another great uptempo high energy show, with 2 slow ones: Oteil doing China Doll 1st set and Bob taking Stella Blue in the same 2nd set position as Days Between.

Mayer has used the Tele this tour which is a treat. It's a '52 Blackguard he first used on Born and Raised in 2013 but it's been rarely onstage until sporadic appearances with Cumberland and some other tunes this tour.

And great weather for it too, also! Perfect temperature, fairly low humidity, and a river breeze across the Delaware Valley. Listen to the river sing sweet songs... Plus waxing gibbous moon leading to a full moon for NYC show.

You are so right about the sonic landscape. Last summer, after so much PRS tones on prior tours, Mayer favored his Silver Sky (almost exclusively from my impression of 2021) and it worked well.

This turn around the sun, he's back to favoring another Super Eagle with different switching/electronics layout apart from the Tele. Although I noted the Moc Sand Silver Sky for one song last night; he was working that tremolo like Weir usually does!

The 2nd set 'Goes Into' and Reprises are amazing this tour. And Cumberland 'out of' Space seems like they should bill themselves as "Dead Unchained" ha-ha-ha.

Thanks for chiming in!

Also, many kudos to Meyer Sound for the quality of the PA. I've been close to the Mix Station for my shows and the sheds are like a great sound system but outside.

The stadium a bit less defined imaging but still total quality at volume. No need for ear plugs, not after affects, and everything sounds great.

Only nitpicks are level of Weir and sometime Oteil in the mix, but that's the mix not the reinforcement; why other acts and companies don't care to achieve such results is beyond me (well not really...).
