I just filed my second chargeback in 6 months with this company because they were not shipping nor replying to email. The first order placed before any of this crazy drama was shown on the website. A second order in early April as they had a banner on the site claiming items were shipping again. Over a month and no replies later, I gave up. It must be wide spread as the payment processor they used, the Shop app, has stopped featuring their items.

I am done with the company. I will buy from resellers. Its worth paying a couple dollars per cap to let someone else deal with obtaining them.
Jupiter Condenser for bumble bees. Ebay isn’t too bad for black beauties, although Jupiter told me black beauties are coming soon.

I found a shop in the UK with a stock of Luxe caps. Needed some grey tigers.

I found a reseller online to get me through this job. I will definitely try the alternates suggested!

I wish they'd make them look right. They are huge metal cases, seemingly powder coated black with metallic paint stripes. Not even close.
I can't use them for vintage restorations if they don't look right. If they are not going in a vintage instrument and/or looks don't matter, there's a thousand other fine capacitor options without the size / cost.

Jupiter does make some pretty nice caps for amp restorations, which I use. It's just too bad their "bumblebees" look nothing like bumblebees.

When he told me they were making black beauties, he seemed to indicate that they would not look like black beauties. I suggested he would sell a lot more if they looked identical for the very reasons you mentioned.

Zoso’s are the way forward..
100%. I got a set of reissue Mustard Caps for my Adam Jones LP mods. I swapped in a Duncan Custom Shop Dynabucker at the neck, and a BG Pure 90 at the bridge along with a neck pickup Treble Bleed and no load tone pot for the bridge. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Nice..
I stuck one on the neck pickup of Fender Strat special.. and it’s “mustard”, as we say in London.

My exact experience. I guess it feels a little better that I’m not the only one? Maybe. I’m not in deep but it’s just the principle.
Ditto for me. Ordered in November 2023. Got a link to the robbery story in a reply to my initial email. Replies have now ceased. A month ago, I demanded immediate shipment or a full refund. No reply. $60 isn't gonna kill me. It's the principal. A shame too, because I love their products for their accurate vintage vibe (not arguing that a modern cap of same value will perform the same). I put their "phone book" caps in my CS Strat and several partscasters - they look and sound great.

Like an idiot I tried again only because I heard some people were getting orders. This time it’s my fault. Just wish all customers were treated the same but who needs to do that when you have a contract with Gibson. I will accept that the orders which continue to be taken will not be filled.

I ordered from Luxe on July 2, 2024. Did not know there had been issues. It’s now September 6th, several emails in and NOTHING. Really pisses me off. Just sent another email.

If anybody has ANY contact info for Donovan, kindly post up or send me a DM.

THANKS!

It really sucks because I do like the Luxe caps but no way I’d order them now. Maybe if I could order without paying until they’re ready to ship? But to pay up front then wait months with no product and no communication? Nope.

I recently picked up a pair of Jupiter Condenser Bumblebees for a SG and to me they sound pretty much just like the Luxe Bees. They’re slightly bigger physical but have the same look. Price is about the same as Luxe. But they’re readily available:

Yeah, I finally gave up on Luxe and ordered some Jupiter bumblebees. I was disappointed by how huge the Jupiters are - probably 50% larger than a vintage bumblebee. If you're working in a tight control cavity, the Jupiter bumblebees could be difficult to use. Jupiter should disclose this on their website. They are sold as bumblebee replacements, but they are certainly not built to "appearance" spec. OTOH, their functional measurements are very precise with no drift.

It's been near 10 months since I ordered the bumblebees from Luxe. Still no refund nor product.

I assume with Luxe being non existent with their orders.. Gibson are using another company to produce the bumble bee caps?
Who is the company?

Sozo Mustard Caps are a solid alternative, and readily available from many retailers.

I understood Gibson still used Luxe - maybe from a huge built-up reserve vs. new orders? Or maybe Luxe continues to service the big customers while screwing we little guys?

Yes. See my warning above about the physical size of the Jupiter caps. They seem like good quality if the size is not an issue.

Yeah I emailed him about 30 times just asking for an update over a period of 3 months after placing my order without a single reply. I finally emailed asking for a refund and got it the next day. Very weird and suspicious. But I did end up finding someone who had some Luxe caps on eBay and bought them. Also saw some on Reverb. So there’s other ways to get them. Just sucks that the guy who makes them sucks now.

How can we petition Jupiter to make them look more like vintage bees? Their service is great but yeah, the size is a bit unfortunate.

Already had the conversation with Jupiter about look-alikes. They aren't interested.

Personally, I think they should have just painted their caps gray or left them the natural metal finish or something and just sold them as "excellent capacitors."

Better than doing some weird black textured powder coating and metallic paint stripes, on absolutely massive caps, then calling them "Bumblebees" when they are definitely not.
