What is a good stand that is nitro finish safe.

I've experienced some slight damage on the headstocks of my nitro finished Gibson and Fender guitars from a hanging stand.

Never use the stands with surgical tubing (I don't believe they make them anymore), always cover any part that has contact with the guitar with old tee shirt or old socks (cotton), this includes any stand that claims to be nitro safe. It's always better safe than sorry.

I had socks on the stand. It ate teh nitro right through the socks. Guess a few layers are in order.

What about the Hercules stands? Anyone try them

Ultimate stands have been fine for me. Also String Swings for wall hanging.

I use those yellow Gibson polish cloths and wrap them many times around all areas on the stand that contact the guitar. Never had a problem doing this...

I use the On Stage brand "Flip it" Guitar Stand. They use a nitro safe rubber on all of their stands.

I don't leave my guitar on the stand all the time though, if I did ...I still would cover it w/ some cotton cloth to be safe.

I have read that the Hercules stands are also nitro-safe

Underwear is nitro safe if cotton, but why would you put the guitar in your pants? Are you sick?

Sanity check on aisle 3!

Why, to make a bad album cover, of course!

Even though I am in a band where space is a precious comodity, my guitar case is my only guitar stand. The only way I would use a stand is if I were able to place my guitars on the side wall of a stage where I was standing and knew there would be no traffic walking past them. In that case I use a new Ultimate Stand.

In other words, trust no one when it comes to your guitar's safety.

I've been using an "On-Stage" stand and "String Swing" wall hangers for years. Both products work well and have not damaged any of my Gibsons.

The Rockstand (foam) suspiciously started to stick to the nitro topcoat on my Highway One Strat, so I wouldn't trust it on my Gibson. The packaging no longer says anything about being nitro safe.

As far as short-term use goes, the Hercules stand did not seem to have any problems for my Guild (nitro) or Gibson (nitro, of course) and it's an awfully stable stand.

It seems that many of the manufactureres are no longer saying that the foam is "safe" so they've toned down their language a bit leaving it up to us to figure out if it's safe. Makes me feel a little like Dustin Hoffman in the dentist's chair...

I've used the Rockstand as well with no issues. Of course the LPC was thirty years old when I put it on.

I suspect a lot of issues that people report with Rockstand, String Swing and Ultimate - all of which I've used without incident, has to do with how well the nitro has cured. If the guitar is a year or two old, or more, it'll probably be fine. It's just the newbies, still leaching solvent, that cause the problems.
