What is the best non-Gibson Les Paul?

If the brief is a Les Paul-style guitar that's not a Gibson, and assuming a replica isn't the answer then I lean towards PRS. I have a McCarty which plays brilliantly and is 75% of the way there in terms of tone, but I'd love to try a singlecut and see if it can get closer. They play better than Gibsons out of the box in my experience, it's just the traditional look I can't give up!

I bought this Artist double cut with a broken neck for ~$100 Australian from their bargain bin. After a home spun neck repair and refinish it absolutely rocks

2000s Navigator IMHE - master luthiery, all the right bones, hide glue, thin finish, true Honduran mahogany, they use either Madagascar or Honduran rosewood, perfect fit and finish, etc. Have played them next to Historics and Vintage and they have the sound. They also have the 24.567" scale (624mm) that some say is more accurate to vintage vs the 24.75" that many including Gibson use today.

The photos of the various neck cavities are pretty spectacular … those are the tightest I’ve ever seen in my life I have seen a lot of cavities

The Ronin Palus Mourn belongs in this conversation. I own the 1/1 Old Black tribute that Izzy built when they were raising funds for their shop expansion and it's a marvelous instrument. There is something magical about a guitar built from thousand-year-old redwood.
