What is the Mighty Mite pickup?

When I bought my Deluxe back in '89, it was routed and the previous owner had put a pair of double white Mighty Mites there instead. I changed them almost at once, and I don't remember what they sounded like. One is lost, but I found the other one the other day. My luthier says they are some cheap crap, but I can't but wonder if they may sound ok? Anyone who knows about this pickup?

I used to have a Mighty Mite catalog from the early eighties. They made guitar kits and sold a bunch of heavy brass replacement hardware for Fenders and Gibsons. The pickups were touted (by them!) to be the coolest thing. I think Eddie Van Halen might have tried them out for awhile They had a distortion humbucker like yours, one of them was hot and had see through bobbins, they had a PAF clone and some strat pickups as I recall. Wish I still had that stuff I know I hung onto the catalog for many years. Still got an abused Vintage Guitar catalog from '82. 25-30 years ago everyone heard of Mighty Mite. I have an old cat named Mighty Mite.

what do your pickups measure?

mighty mite are decent quality imports, i've had a few of the newer alnico paf copy humbuckers, i removed the cover and changed the magnets, fine for cheap paf copies, these measured about 8.5k and sounded as good as duncan 59s imo after i swapped out magnets for a3..

Mighty Mite, if I recall correctly, was one of the earlier players in the make your own bolt on guitar business.

I believer the original company went under and later resurfaced.

If the pickups are from the original company I suggest they have yet to capture a following of large proportion.

I was on a Van Halen kick for awhile. He actually used these pickups during his early years but most mistake them for dimarzio super distortions. hmmmm....

back when I was 14 or so, I wandered around a guitar shop and played a Cort guitar that had Mighty Mite pickups. I know that my unseasoned ears are not the most trustworthy but I thought they were pretty cool back then!

I remember back in the late 70's and early 80's, Mighty Mite was just about it for guitar parts. Dimarzio also had brass guitar parts in their early catalogs too. I think I have both catalogs still lying around somewhere. If I remember right, Mighty Mite's distortion pickup was "similar" to Dimarzio's Super D. They even looked the same. Wasn't it soon after, that Dimarzio went to court to have the "lock" on double cream pickups?? I think it was. You MM pickup is most likely "pre-lawsuit!"

I had a Cort Flying V with an onboard preamp. I seem to remember that it wasn't that bad...I played it for about 6 or 7 years.

I have an Old Cort LP studio copy, with ceramic MM pickups - its about late 80's.

Its an OK but not a great guitar, a bit lightweight, but well made and very playable. But then I got a similar looking Gibson Studio - never played the Cort since, the sound is better in every way.
