• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This brings back memories of merry old England. I must have lived there in another life.

Around 1:07:00

Watson: "Things are looking up, Holmes. This little island is still on the map."
Holmes: "Yes. This fortress, built by nature for herself. This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, ... this England."

Something else the British used to bring to the table -- the weekly copy of Melody Maker magazine. I watched this last night on Amazon Prime Video:

As the 2016 documentary notes, Melody Maker helped to break Genesis as a bigtime act when they put Peter Gabriel in his mad fox head and flower head costumes on their front covers.

I remember as a young lad making my way to London from the backwaters of southwest Germany on school break during the summers of 1969 and 1970 to check out the music scene. Rory Gallagher, Blodwyn Pig and Steamhammer at the Marquee. Aynsley Dunbar at the Roundhouse. Many others, famous then or to become so shortly and not so famous But doing it. My first glimpse of a real sunburst in one of the shops on Shaftesbury. (I’d seen Spencer Davis play one at a club in Munich in 1968 and wondered what the hell it was....) Checking out Seymour Duncan’s workbench in one of the shops with a cream coil PAF on it. Heady stuff! It was an incredible atmosphere in the city at that time. It has shaped my entire musical life.

I live in the states and own some Fender amps, but I am still partial to Marshalls!
