I'm wondering what the difference in actual look of a maple cap when comparing Eastern Maple to Western Maple.
My thoughts would be that since the Eastern Maple grows in a colder climate the growth rings would be smaller thus not as thick stripe or flame. With Western growing in a warmer climate you would have thicker growth rings thus a much more active top thicker stripes, flame etc. I know that there are preferences towards the Eastern for tone.
