I've had both experiences with super glue. I've used it to build up holes or cracks in plastic (though I prefer epoxy) with good results. But I've also had incidents where superglue actually expanded the cracks and made it impossible to rejoin pieces. This occured with plastic that was under stress. For example, a crack in a pickup ring that just blew apart when I added superglue to it. It really took me by surprise.
I don't know what about the superglue made that happen.
