• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What's the quick fix for Volume and Tone knobs that constantly fall off?

Hey Lena;

I've had both experiences with super glue. I've used it to build up holes or cracks in plastic (though I prefer epoxy) with good results. But I've also had incidents where superglue actually expanded the cracks and made it impossible to rejoin pieces. This occured with plastic that was under stress. For example, a crack in a pickup ring that just blew apart when I added superglue to it. It really took me by surprise.

I don't know what about the superglue made that happen.

"I keep some with me at gigs but other musicians keep "borrowing" them and heading out back."

They're probably going to fix their knobs.

I just tried the superglue fix on a couple of loose knobs - and it so totally works!
These knobs had been on the wrong kind/make of pot and been 'stripped'/smoothened on the insides.

I used a gel type of glue, rather thick and not quite so fast drying. Applied with a toothpick.
Then after about a day when the glue was pretty much hard (but not totally) I pushed them onto pot shafts. And pulled them right off again. That created the right surface on the insides of the shaft holes.

And then a couple of days later they are ready, and exactly like new... or vintage actually :ganz
