• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What's your #1 desert island guitar? (any model of Gibson)

I'm curious what everyone's #1 in their collection is! What's the guitar you're bringing to a desert island where monetary value isn't a factor?

There's not a guitar I'd trade on the planet for the 55' Special I picked up some time back. Even though it has a number of changes and a headstock repair, it's easily my #1. It sounds unreal, plays like butter, and I don't think could look any cooler.

Let's see yours!IMG_6476.jpg

No electricity? No amp hopping. My L5C would be the one.

I would love an arch top myself. Still on the bucket list. And for the purposes of this discussion, I'm pretending electricity and an amp are easily accessible haha. (And thanks!)

My #1 is my 1980 Firebrand SG (center on my avatar.) |I'd live naked on the streets before selling that guitar.
Though if it was a case that it would be a short trip, and I know the end date, |I'd just bring my junker acoustic. |I don't want sand getting in all the crevices and eating the fretboard of #1.

I've somehow never managed to play an SG. But I love the sound of them. I was at Joe B's show last night and that was one of my favorite sounding guitars in the set. They kind of have a Flying V thing but not quite. And they definitely don't sound like Les Paul's either. I was watching a video on how the pickup placement is different and I'm sure the body style has a big effect on that as well.

my red ...beat up ...61 SG...with the old low power PAFs........no amp????? i'd plug it into a coconut!!!!!...after lunch...of course!!!!
 I think it would still sound killer through some island coconuts. Especially, the old vintage ones that have had time for the shells to settle.

If there's power on this mythical desert island, then my 2000 R9. If it's an "unplugged" venue, then my 2003 Music Machine Stinger-Series Hummingbird:

That is a stunning guitar. I need a vintage Gibson acoustic in my life! My 55 Special feels just like that. I thought it was going to be a challenge to play being old with low vintage frets, but it's the easiest guitar I have to play on.

I've had coincidences just like yours. I never know what to make of them but they're too strange to not have some kind of meaning!
