• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Where's Tom Wittrock ?

Hi

Just wondering where Tom Wittrock is nowadays. Doesn't seem to post and is no longer Host on the vintage section.

Just curious.

I asked the same question- "He is a member in good standing" I was told. Oh-tay.
That is code for "we tied a cinderblock around his neck and chucked him in Lake Ozark".
He is a good man and I hope he comes back.

Years ago.

I went to a guitar show in Dallas.

To go to Tom's booth and meet him.

He was eating a sandwich.

While engaging another guy in serious conversation.

I didn't want to be rude and be a buttinsky.

After about 30 minutes or so I gave up and left.

To this day.

I still hate sandwiches.

Ok, I guess someone has to say it. His knowledge of LP’s and especially bursts are (were?) unquestionable. But his demeanor and general social skills, at least those on display here, were too often, condescending, brash, discourteous and sometimes just downright rude. Just one man’s opinion. But I hope nothing too serious befell him.

Tom is one of the nicest people I've ever met. His enthusiasm for Les Pauls is one of the reasons I frequent this forum.

And he is unfailingly generous, in a variety of ways, in my direct experience.

Hope he and everyone here enjoys a fine Fourth, such as we can.

Let us perhaps remember that even though we are all dancing to different tunes, we are better, so much better, trying to stay in the same parade.

I don't speak for anyone here apart for myself, but I can read, and I can think. Tom, et al, having given me legion opportunities to do both.

So we all often fall out, so what. We make and have made mistakes, and we're all going to make some more, all of us, so what.

What we ought not do is shoot our wounded.

Ever.

Colours nailed, mine don't run. That's why I've stuck around here so long, hardly anyone's here do.

Life is really too brief for these acrobatics.

Tom...et al ( many on the missing list) ..when you're ready.....

Paul.

Huh, there was this "Omtay Ittrockway" user on the PRS forum who claims he sold his old guitar collection and went all in on "far superior" PRS Private Stock stuff. Couldn't be the same guy though, different name.

Impossible. Tom would have to lose his sense of hearing and smell. While PRS can make a good guitar every once in a while, they have yet to produce something as mellow as G.I. Paul.

Generous with his time and with his passion. A presence that would be sorely missed in this space.

“Would be missed...?” This reminds me of the world at large. So even the long-time, aficionados of this forum have NO idea where such an iconic member went? He vanishes and is purged from host status with zero fanfare? Seems really odd. So many inexplicable things going on, this just adds to life’s growing mysteries.

I’m going to posit this: Was there possibly a ‘difference of opinion’ about the whole lockdown, ‘essential (music) business’ vs the med profession among the curators of the site? :ganz

I've met Tom a few times at the Dallas Guitar Show. He has always been very friendly and generous with vintage guitar discussions at any level. He would be OK with anyone wanting to take super close up photos of his Bursts. A great ambassador for LPs.

For those interested/concerned you may have better success inquiring here vs. a thread post.

Tom is a dear friend and is still a member in good standing of the LPF. He loves this place. He is still checking in and reading. I think he is taking a break from posting, but my hope is that he will resume shortly. :hank
