• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Which NEW model for around $2500???

Getting rid of my McCarty and looking to spend around $2500 or less.
Thinking about a Classic or Standard 50's neck.
Looking for decent electronics.Any info or stuff to look out for when purchasing will help.
Thanks

Don't waste your time; Get one of the 57 Historic Goldtops. You can get one from a Forum dealer for under $2500.00.

I would also see if any Forum dealers have the 57 Refins still available. (I bought a gorgeous R7 Iced Tea Refin from Wildwood ) They are excellent gutars as well and they can be had ( I'm guessing ) for probably around $2200.00. I bought three R7's before the price increase and I got all of mine for under 2 grand each.

IMO, the R7 was, at the time, the best bang for the buck. The rationale was why pay $1995.00 for a regular Standard with weight relief holes when you can get a Historic with a solid body PLUS all the Historic features like plastic, pots, etc.

If you can check the R7's out. You won't be sorry you did.

Yeah ,I forgot about those!
The whole reason for the McCarty was for the Dickey Betts vibe(I'm a big Grissom fan also).I guess a '57 RI would suffice.

R7.

I would get a Heritage CM 150 before I got a Standard. They are great guitars and you can get them now with a normal stop bar tail piece and hardware. Great price also. I have not bought one yet but it is very, very tempting!

I'd go directly to Mark's site and have a look at the Cherry Cloud 9 57 RI he has listed. Let's see, a custom color guitar from a very limited and unique series. If it plays and sounds the way you want it to, it could also prove to me a decent investment. Don't get me wrong. It's probably not going to skyrocket like a 50s LP, but there's murmurrings that the Cloud 9 series could be somewhat "collectable." On one hand, I hate discussing guitars in those terms. If I was in your position, sound and playability definitely come first, but on the other hand, if you can get in on the "ground floor" of something cool and enjoy playing it too...

If a Cloud 9 is in your budget then I would make that my first choice. I have two and they are now my two favorites to play. They even beat out my 8.6lbs R7.

Get a plaintop or goldtop historic that has your preferred neck profile and pickups.

A CUSTOM or my Fave the R6 GT ( P-90 ) if you like the P-90 vibe, along with a nice Boutique Tube Amp.For that amount? I'd be a happy Camper for a while.

Peace!!:wail

R7 or R8 or refin R7, or you might get lucky and find a used, flamed 01 or 02 R8 for that price.
