• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Who said they knew Taylor Hicks?

I know somebody made a comment that he was some sort of jerk or something? He sure does a good act at being a really nice guy, and the guy can sing too. :dude

modoc 333 said that he knew him. It's in the 'American Idol' thread. He didn't really say he didn't like him, just that he'd keep his opinions about him to himself.

I guess I read into that as being that he feels he is of lesser character or something like that.

He sure seems to be doing well.

he is doing well, and my opinions of his personality have nothing to do with a singing contest.... that's why i didn't share them.
what i really don't like is the trend he is following. that show is supposed to be a chance for amateur singers to compete against each other for their big break. this guy is a professional........ not really cool IMHO. if they extend the age limits (again) would it be fair for Aretha Franklin to compete?

Does he have a CD out on a major label and tour nationally? In my opinion, that's what constitutes professional status. Now that he's on Idol, that may be next.

They let professional athletes compete in the Olympics......If he makes a living singing, he surely hasnt gotten the big break yet....Ive never heard of him before this.

Aretha is fairly well known without needed to resort to Simons crap.

I'd watch it just to see Ree-Ree bitch-slap Cowell :dude

And what I understand as a professional is someone who gets paid to do something.. How that status can be changed back to amateur once you go "pro" is kinda sketchy IMHO.

It's like becoming a virgin again.. ;)

Making a living singing is the big break. It's having to make a living doing something else while your giggin' that sux.

Taylor Hicks did put out some solo albums after he won American Idol, but he never had the sustained success as, say, Kelly Clarkson or Bo Bice. The back cover of his album shows him with a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Stratocaster.
Taylor Hicks mostly does a lot of community theatre in Alabama and Georgia, not too far from where I live. But he is mostly retired from his solo career.
