• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Who's your favourite Australian guitarist?

John Farrar...
Before this thread, he was the only Aussie I could think of, who I have heard play.
The Youngs are Scottish, I thought of the singer in Men At Work, but HE says he's Scottish(?).
Re: the Youngs, if you regard them as Aussies, then I'll add Hank Marvin.

You might want to talk trash to me because of this, but I'd say Daniel Johns.

Yeah, he may not be on everyone's mind these days, but back in the early 90s, I'd have a blast listening to Silverchair before it became a pop boy-band and went down in flames with Neon Balroom. Their first 2 albums really rocked back then, I remember reading lots of articles in Guitar World magazine about them and their sound was quite something, very promising. Too bad the band went nowhere, really. The boys had potential. They're still a good teenage memory in my head.

Probably Neil Finn from Crowded House.
Okay, he's from New Zealand, but they're Australasian, and that was what counted.

If I remember correctly Neil Finn played a Gretsch.

I would have said this, but I knew was a NZer...
He mainly played a Les Paul Deluxe, with the Gretsch as an alternative for most of his time in CH. I think he's retired the LP these days.
I worried for his sanity when he joined Fleetwood Mac, though.

Matt Smith of Thirsty Merc is a good player, has some very nice jazz chops away from the pop stuff. Super nice cat too.
