• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Will my Classic fade?

Hi,

I have a 1991 LP Classic that I love, well sound wise.
The color is really ugly, I was wondering if it would fade if I put it in direct sunlight or even a taning bed. I don't really want to re-finish it, it's not that important.

anybody have experience with this? Thanks!!

Don't think it'll be easy to fade the color on that but it might over a long time. BTW, what's up with the bridge on that gold top?

Thank you for your answer, havn't seen much now and it's 15 years old. I wonder if it stayed in it's case his whole life.

That is the 70s way of fixing a 20 year old problem :wah

I'd be really careful sticking it in the sun, might damage the glue.

Thanks, how long do you think? a week? month? year?
Will a tanging bed work faster?

...I've got about 60 hrs. on it(top side) already and it has faded almost to where I want it to be,once that's done will give it some sun on the backside...if you sun it,be sure to tape over the board and inlays...
...I have no idea how long a tanning bed would take...

I'm also beginning to fade my '01 (by sun expose).

I would like the lacquer to be yellowed.
Do you know if the lacquer will be yellowing as quickly as the color fade? :ganz

My '95 has faded a lot in the last 11 years, but then it's been out on a stand or on a wall hanger 99% of the time. Never in direct sunlight, but there's enough scattered UV in this part of the World to fade it anyhow. The inlays have also faded. The downside is that the body binding has cracked considerably.

I'd like to fade this clown, but hell I never see the sun myself, unless I get a day gig!
