• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I finally found a Marshall class 5 amp today! I was starting to get annoyed with all of the advertising for it but nobody in my part of the world had one to sell me. and none of the mail order dealers had them either. so for those of you in the houston area i found mine at the GC on westheimer. i think they still had more, at least i know the floor model was there when i left.
it sounds a lot like my 76 superlead at a lower volume. but it wasn't exactly the same. but then again all 3 of my early/mid 70's superleads sound different. i guess i would say it had a touch of a boxy sound, something in the low end was missing. but i still like it. it has a little more mids than my vox ac4tv w/celestion g10 gold. the gold isn't broken it yet but i don't think it will get there, the vox probably is just a different beast. i have never had a vox so i don't know if this is what a vox should sound like and if this is a common difference between a marshall and vox. for the price the vox is still a nice amp with a different flavor. the marshall stinks! i was looking for the power cord and reached inside to see if it had been put it there. no power cord but there was a tacky substance on the inside. maybe this is how marshall is correcting the rattle problem? i didn't hear any rattle at least not as of today. the power cord and owners manual were under a piece of cardboard in the bottom of the box. they were kinda hidden. i look forward to playing this amp more and maybe after the speaker breaks in it will help with that something missing in the low end. or maybe i'll pick up a celestion 10" greenback and give it a try. or maybe one of the weber speakers.
again, WOOHOO.

Good for you! I'm still liking mine a lot. It's a fun little amp. Give the speaker some time to break in, it's makes a huge difference in tone.

i pluged my c5 into my 4x12 cabinet today to see if i could get back that something missing that my superlead has. it didn't happen. i then plugged the superlead back in and i came to the realization that the superlead had more gain. more noticably on the lower strings. so maybe i'll play with tubes to see if the c5 gets closer to it. i'm thinking that from what i have read that the 100watts and the larger output transformer is what is giving the superlead that extra something in the low end. from what i have also heard there is even a difference between the 100w 1959 and 50w 1987. but again, i am still liking my c5.
