• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Would like opinion from forum members, please.

This may be the last trade I might be able to do for awhile, so I was wondering if anyone here thinks it may be a worthwhile trade.
I am not thinking of the cash value of the trade, but rather, would I be ahead by getting the Historic '63 as it being a better guitar to replace the two I have.

I own a AAA LP Standard and a ES-339F in cherry.
I have a chance to trade these two guitars for an excellent condition '08 Historic '63 ES-335.
Both of my guitars play wonderfully, but I would have to send away for the ES-335.
Who here would trade the LP and the ES-339 for the Historic '63 335?

Thank you to all who offer their opinion.

What will the 335 do that the 339 won't? What will the LP and the 339 do that the 335 won't?
Answer those, and listen to your heart.

I'm not sure I'd be willing to give up two guitars I liked for one I've never played.

Sure if you played the 335 and it blew you away, maybe I'd go for it. Or if you just didn't bond with either of the other guitars.

What MikeB said.

A bird in the hand ...

Is there anyway you can keep your two guitars, send off for the new guitar and have an approval period then sell the two if you like the new one better?

BINGO! Personally, I don't like buying guitars sight unseen. Especially if I have to get rid of two guitars in order to get that guitar sight unseen.

Another thing to consider - are you sure an Historic 335 is really that much better than what you have? There are many on this forum that do not believe an Historic 335 is very different from a Memphis 335 at all. Personally, I have a Memphis 335 that kicks ass. I have played several Historic 335s that do not measure up to mine. I guess what I am saying is, don't jump into this just because it is an "Historic" guitar and is therefore supposed to be awesome. Remember, there are still R9s being made that are complete duds.

I find that when I am agonizing over a decision such as this, if I let it pass, I very rarely ever regret it.

Good luck in your decision! I hope you end up happy whatever you do.

Hi C-4,
it's a tough one but as most said, you know what you have, you don't know what you'll have... You apparently dig the two axes you own, so unless I'd have a chance to try that Historic 335 and it blew me away, I wouldn't do the trade.

Go out and play three-four or five gigs on your LP and 339 and buy a 335...

Thanks to all who were kind enough to give me their opinions, no matter which side you took. I appreciate all of the honesty.
The trade-in prices I received were not that good. Yes, the guitars I have are wonderful. I just get GAS like this and want something I haven't yet acquired, as I'm sure hit's most of us from time to time.
Thanks to those of you who offered me a verbal bitch-slap...I needed that!

They never are! Everytime I get an itch for something new & bring in one for a possible trade...I go back home discouraged, but appreciating what I've already got. :jim
