• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Wow! I am legit here now! Can't believe there is that much difference.

Today I got a guitar I thought I would never be able to have. Perhaps to some it is a middle of the road guitar but to me it is THE guitar I have looked at and wanted for years. My wife insisted today that I have it. Wow!!!!

Today I got my Custom Shop 56 Goldtop Reissue. . . Got to confess I wanted one so badly I bought an Epiphone of the same type. To be honest the Epi was a very nice guitar and I could have been happy with it.

But. . . I went to a local shop to get an Epiphone Valve Junior head to check out and get familiar with so I could begin to offer the mods everyone seems to love so much.

There She was. . . hanging there, just put out this very morning. Actually she was the first I had ever seen live in a store. I tried to turn away from her and run. I tried so very hard.

Then I saw that the store was selling all of it's Les Pauls for cost! As I looked at the price tag on the R6 I cursed, knowing my soul wasn't worth that much but the guitar was worth so very much more. I knew that at that price I had to have her. Had to.

I thought, again to be honest, that the main difference between the real Custom Shop R6 and the Epi would be minimal, maybe not even noticable. I was so very wrong. For as much as I really do think that Epi was a great guitar this R6 is by far the best built, best playing, best finished guitar I have EVER played or seen. From the frets to the pickups everything shows such a dramatic difference over a guitar I though so great.

Okay fellers. I understand now. I really do. The Custom Shop Historics are everything they are cracked up to be and so very much more.

And now your humble writer is a full fledged member of this board and the Historic group and very proud.

May I please have a seat? Oh, pictures if requested but I am sure you all know the R6 by now.

MN yes it is an Atlanta store. Actually Ken Stanton's Marietta location. They have a good many Les Pauls all at cost. I could not believe the prices on them. Made it possible to have the guitar I have wanted for so long.

If you want details and a phone number just email me at mailto:tom2696@comcast.net ( Of course you want to delete the mailto:

And thanks RSDean, I appreciate that very much.

Thanks man. I've been to Ken Stanton once (long drive if there's traffic) and was VERY impressed with the guitars they had on the wall as well as the fact that they let me play whatever I wanted even after they didn't have what I was looking for and it was clear I wasn't buying. Great store and it sounds like you ended up with a great guitar.

P-90s are great, killer guitar, congrats!

I think you're right, you just have to own one to understand the things that make them great.

So what was the cost? I paid $1799 for my new 2005 R7 Custom Authentic two weeks ago. Did you get a better price than that?

Exactly! I have the very same epi, I picked it out after playing a lot of them. And it is too a good guitar, as good guitar as you can get for that price. But I'm not living in a dream world were an epi is just as good (some epis are a shame), I know the very large difference between a historic and an epi. It's big...

Hey Muscle, check your email. Glad to answer any questions.

Markas, no you beat me by two hundred. But the guitar I got is "sale priced" at Musicians Friend right now for $3099. I could not have bought it that way. Seems I was meant to have my dream guitar and now do have it.

Thin, there is no shame in the Epi 56 Goldtop Resissue. I surely didn't trade mine in. Long story, but having no sons I thought my music would just basicly end with me. Then at 14 my daughter began playing. That was 6 months ago and she is dedicated to learning and playing guitar as well as writing songs. You should have seen her smile when I gave her my Epi Goldtop to go with her Schecter C-SH1. She had already just about kidnapped it.

But the Epi is still a great guitar. I haven't played a guitar under 1000 bucks that I would trade it for. Even now when I pick it up I am still amazed.

I guess that when you get your chance to own that one guitar of your dreams you just have to go for it.

Will surely have pics this afternoon and perhaps a jam on the jam track part of the board to show off her sound.

You guys are all great!

:welcome Songsmith!

This is what I love - when a great guitar goes to live with a great owner - that means one that respects and loves the instrument - and will play it and cherish it. It's nice to see that you really appreciate the guitar.

I've got an R7 that I bought about 9 months ago. Just an amazing guitar. I had Steve Mesple at Wildwood pick one out for me that is exactly what I wanted tone-wise and with a darkback, etc..

I bought my first Les Paul (a cherry sunburst Custom) new 20 years ago, and I'll never part with it. There's nothing like a Gibson Les Paul (except 2 Gibson Les Pauls, or 3, or 4... The majority of the guys here end up owning several..

Anyway, cheers, and enjoy the R6!

Oh, and :photos
