Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I was looking at Mike's "Photos of Tops" in the members link area earlier on tonight - the top sure looks like his "Jimmy Wallace" it's too bright for a '59 !!! but then again so is the fretboard -could be the flash? The imprints of the Kluson's look a little too fresh as well !!
I'm also with Ed R the logo is very amber with little or no pearl,
doesn't look too far down to me. Nice guitar though milan - next step is pull her apart and let as all see her innards... that'll get everyone's grey matter goin' :wow
Thanks for all the input, folks! I'm learning a lot here. I have no delusions of it being a real
'59, I just wanted to know what it might be other than one of the best sounding, playing,
and feeling guitars I've ever played. It's exciting to think it might even be a Jimmy Wallace,
as I never seemed to be in the loop for those babies either. Living here in Hawaii, you get
plenty of vintage steels, Martins, etc...but all the cool electrics have been swept out of here
by touring rock stars, japanese collectors with deep pockets, and the few that remain are
in the hands of a very few savvy(read: DEEP POCKETS) local collectors.
Sorry for the cruddy pics. I'll try to get a good digital cam and take some daylight shot over
the weekend. I'll take it apart too, if time permits, for those who are interested. I went to
our local Histrical dealer yesterday, and they had a few '59 & 79 RIs, but they didn't come close to this one in tone or feel, though the color on the top didn't make me think "refin"
the way mine does. I would have asked them about my guitar, but except for ripping off
Japanese tourists at "list plus 20%...a credit card? That'll be list plus30%." They are pretty
much useless.
Yes the tuners were replaced recently, a year or so ago. The previous owner used the klusons
to restore a '50s steel guitar(his real passion). So it goes.
Finally, no, I didn't pay a real '59 price for the thing. I don't run in those financial circles,
or I would already own the real deal! The guitar cost me $1800. I appreciate my friend
cutting me such a fine deal!
I'd pay more than that by sight alone. But don't just take our word for it, dig deeper, and find out what you have. If it did happen to be a Jimmy Wallace it would be work 4X what you paid or more
